targeting areas that need the most help, said Martin Schaefer, a conservation scientist who leads Fundación Jocotoco. “What the research shows is that when you are close to the old growth forest, don’t do active restoration,” he said. “Because it’s a waste of money —

And now word that the Seattle Central College faculty is planning a walk out at 10 AM on May 1 to join the rally in Cal Anderson Park. @cascadiadaily.com @cascadiarevolting.bsky.social @cascadiademocratic.bsky.social
We have word that the longshoreman's union has issued a call for a sick out on May Day in Seattle, and that it may extend down the West Coast. This is not in response to AI, but it is an assertive action. Demands here: www.seattlemayday.org
Nice, Andrew. And my wife and I continue chuckling about the anarchists’ market. Definitely need more of those!
What an honor!!!
Thank you for your work.
You've got me thinking now about how best to put that in motion. Unfortunately, it's going to have to wait. I am fully engaged in planning a general strike, and I am working full time. But some day this needs to be done.
So I am thinking a push to get this training into schools at all levels. I think Finland(?) is doing that. Are you familiar with @emma-briant.co.uk? Maybe this is where we start?
I am hopeful that independent media like yours is the answer. But it seems way too small a scale to be effective. Any thoughts?
This is so spot on. This is at the core of the media imbalance in the US, Andrew. But I lack for a solution. I've heard people suggest that the left build an echo machine like the right has. But people on the left aren't as, well, gullible as those on the right. And echo machines don't work.

FYI: Seattle Data Centers
These are the kinds of local and state level things that are hardest to clean up after a corrupt administration leaves office. So many personnel with integrity forced to leave, offices filled with incompetents, and shady political appointees that the next admin forgets are in place. Big job.
Sheesh. Thanks for bringing this forward. I knew there was a deeper story there. The whole proceeding just stunk of fascism.
Congratulations, Erica!! So wonderful to see a great talent being recognized!
This is how you start. Get people used to the idea and the action. Then build up. You can help!

@volts.wtf, someone needs your help on electric bikes here!
This guy just convinced me to buy an e-bike.
Recommend good stores in Seattle and good e-bikes to me, please.

The markets are NOT collective wisdom as capitalist mythology would have it. Traders just "conform to consensus" until it becomes obvious that consensus was overtaken by events.
Probably. But then it would be revenge, not a protest. A protest at least gets the attention of the public.
Thanks, Fae!
Always really wonder who they are polling.
It would be a good thing to keep track of though. I mean, arson would be pretty indicative of real desperation. It's hard-to-ignore evidence that something is seriously wrong with society. Better than some sterile polling numbers.
I didn't read them all, but I did read two and didn't see any indication of intent or motive in either. I don't doubt that it is happening. But I am not sure EVERY warehouse fire is a protest.
