Except I did just “beg” Reuben for some undergrad research funding so if it helps that, he can share my secret.

@medialawprof.bsky.social is the only admin on here and he won’t rat me out 😀
Stop it, it is too good.
Go see my coauthor @samchapa.bsky.social talk some about our work on how immigration and criminal justice attitudes have fused!
And I am going through the 20 applications for my summer research lab today!
Don’t tell admin that I actually really like this job, it’ll ruin my reputation.
In one class today, students are workshopping to write R code to analyze their survey data, in another, they are discussing policy proposals to improve the sheriff’s office they’ve been following. And in my third, students are putting together their thesis proposals this week. My professor dream.
I could cut off contact with everybody I know, throw all my electronics into a lake, and move out to a cabin in the woods all by myself, and still I think LinkedIn would somehow find a way to send me a message.
Have I learned this lesson yet? No. F for Emily.
Sex and the City meme, "And I couldn't help but wonder who assigned so many things to grade?"
I'm excited to share that we've made a collection of historic Supreme Court Records and Briefs available via
@archive.org
I've written a blog post where I go into detail about the importance of this collection.

Chareth... sheriffs. I was close.
So excited to share that Diversityland: Hiding Racial Inequality in an American Suburb is available for pre-order!

I mean, nobody was wearing trenchcoats in April in my public Alabama high school but suddenly after Columbine, nobody was allowed to.
But that this was the policy response kind of tells the rest of the story.
I was a freshman in high school when Columbine happened, and it is hard to convey how big of a deal the shooting was to students today.
Like every polisci major, I went through a time where I considered going to law school, and I convinced myself that if I did, I wanted to practice maritime law, because I figured that would mean I'd get to live near an ocean. I don't know if that would have worked out, but funny to think about now.
I got to use my small office whiteboard today in office hours to help a student visualize recoding one of their independent variables from our class survey, and these little moments are some of my favorite.

When you are totally not worried about your job because everything is totally cool with your boss…
No more a traitor than Cruz not liking avocados.
I don’t like whataburger 😬
The need to create a new boogeyman in Texas politics is so gross.
I would trust HEB with Texas government more than I trust the lege and governor, and I think many Texans would agree.
They were from Florida. 😳
Somebody on TikTok remarked that Fort Worth was not very Texas, and ma’am, there’s a twice daily cattle drive in the city.
I’m currently listening to a live band playing honky tonk kind of music at the grocery store. Like, what state do you think this is?
I NEED HELP!
Please take this quick, meaningless 19 question survey so I can get data for my students to learn stats!
I did a similar version a few months ago but missed an important question type. Even if you did the old one, please do it again!
Please circulate widely!
Panama City beach in early 1960s
I love old family photos. My mom and my grandmother in Panama City beach probably in early 1960s.
“The children are always ours, every single one of them, all over the globe; and I am beginning to suspect that whoever is incapable of recognizing this may be incapable of morality.” -James Baldwin
The Baldwin line about children gets so much mileage on social media that it risks becoming trite but I refuse to give into the cynicism because at the end of the day he’s 100% right
This version of education as all about "workforce readiness" always makes me sad.
Education ought to be about empowering and guiding curiosity in young people so that they can shape the world how they want it to be.
My mom grew up in England so I’ve got a deep appreciation for a good British garden. 😀
While asking for gardening advice, let me offer this piece of advice: if your zone can grow a Peggy Martin rose bush, do it. This was it just like a few weeks ago, and now it has so many of these pink blooms that I can cut for little vases for inside.
