I'm from a generation who's teenage years were dedicated to hating prog. Sorry...

I suppose this is good news but these plants are still HEFA (essentially waste oil) based and if we want to increase SAF supply then routes from lignocellulosic agricultural wastes have to be rapidly developed. I don't see it happening at scale yet.

They've swapped Northern Soul for this?? 🫨
Voluntary but still a good idea. Let's hope the threat of higher taxes on excessive profits can make it stick.

Not without his troubles but Lancashire born, Leeds educated (at least partially) and a lover of alternative music. A sad loss.
A HUGE, narrative-breaking moment for the UK car market
New EVs are now cheaper than petrol cars on average, says Autotrader
Last yr CCC said price parity was due by 2028 – and it's already here
And EVs are already MUCH cheaper to run than petrol
Bluebell woods at Esholt.
Light not great but always lovely to see a carpet of bluebells.
“By cramming large numbers of animals into confined spaces and relying heavily on fertilisers, these intensive systems release far more ammonia than the environment or our bodies can cope with.’
And yet the UK govt is considering relaxing planning rules for industrial chicken farms… 😐
Wooden post outside Gair Wood near King Lane with the symbols marking walking routes and arrows for the Leeds Country Way and the Meanwood Valley Trail
A new public footpath has opened at Gair Wood in North Leeds, connecting with two popular routes, helping visitors avoid walking alongside busy roads 🌳👣
More than 60k trees were planted there three years ago to enhance the local environment and provide a valuable resource for research and teaching.
Aw. I'm just going to the shops Sadie I won't be long...
Oh good question. They're all different and even the same peaks can be different in different conditions. Maybe my favourite walk was up Kinder on the mass trespass anniversary day a few year ago. I walked up with @commonerschoir.bsky.social and we sang in gale force winds on the top.
This is a great story. I'm currently working my way through the Ethels (peak district hills) and am up to 28 of the full 95. It's a great way to see the whole of the park.
I did appreciate the Russian doll with Orbán on the outside and Putin inside at the Tisza party 😀
Opposition leader Péter Magyar at a rally.
Orbán's electoral crushing is a far greater achievement than most people outside Hungary realise.
He systemically consolidated power for 16 years, fixed the electoral map, abused govt power for political purposes & censored media.
The hurdles that Hungarians overcame for this moment were immense.
Anyway they're retiring from gigging with their final album Liberatsiya. So named for obvious reasons.
Another weekend, another farewell gig at the Brudenell. This time the Ukrainians, offering their superb punkisation of Ukrainian songs and Ukrainianisation of old punk songs. The clever among you will recognise Peter Solowka of the Wedding Present. He hasn't slowed down in his 60s.

Ah yes I vaguely remembered the Mark link. PNE might be more original version than Norman Cook remix...
What's the connection to PNE or are they just desperately seeking positivity?
What a life. What a pop song.
The miners strike for several reasons. 1. I realised that my parents politics was not mine. 2. It was great to find friendship in political solidarity. 3. There were loads of brilliant benefit gigs featuring my favourite indy bands. Yes I know this is the memory of a middle class kid in education.
Yes this is an extreme case but I would say that the general attitude is far more widespread.
Don't you just love it when people can't add up. This is maybe what comes from giving mistaken equivalence to small things (reusing bags and coffee cups etc) and bigger things that are far more necessary, like flying less and switching out that gas boiler for a heat pump.
Probably not a big surprise to anyone. Drax can be replaced as a power generator in the medium term. Maybe the real story here is the total lack of confidence in carbon capture because this has much wider implications for other sectors; aviation in particular.
It appears I'm not the only one confused by this. But you would have hoped that at least the parties to the agreement knew what they had agreed.
In any case, the pictures coming out of Lebanon are grim.
Macron has welcomed the ceasefire between Iran and the US but warned the situation in Lebanon remains critical and urged that Lebanon be included in the deal, Reuters reports.
Whatever happens tonight, or any other night in this war, is now legally defined by the president's statement. In the practical application of the law of genocide, the Genocide Convention of 1948, the difficulty is usually in proving "the intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group." Henceforth the intent is on the record, in the published words of the president of the United States and the commander-in-chief of the armed forces about the death of "a whole civilization."
Professor @timothysnyder.bsky.social on point as usual. Measured, academic, legal and moral. #IranWar

View across the Ladybower reservoir.
Shep and Richard looking pleased to be at the top and backed by blue sky.
You can't beat a bit of bagging on a bank holiday. Ethel number 28: Win Hill. Glorious all round views.
Rhythm is a Mystery by K-class. We heard it at a club at the Warehouse, it got a rewind. We went round every vinyl shop in Leeds singing it only to find out it wasn't yet released. It's still a banger.
