WGAW Writers!
Voting for BOD & Officers starts today (you’ll get an email from Votenet Solutions ~10am PT) and closes 9/23/25 @ 12pm PT.
I’m running for re-election to the Board. If you missed Candidates Night last night, here’s a version of my speech (edited to fit BlueSky limit).
In solidarity.

It’s truly shocking how tech in general and AI in specific removes friction from the creative process, without understanding that friction IS the creative process.
Enjoy your quick, meaningless, derivative, planet-killing, plagiarized slop, kids.
If this, uh, service doesn’t — in the words of a mentor who gave me my start with a freelance episode and then promotion from writers assistant to staff writer — “beat you to death with your own dream,” then it can’t be called “showrunner.” I don’t make the rules!
The fucking audacity.
It really is!!!
Thank you to the members of the LGBTQ+ Writers Committee who came forward to share their family-building stories and struggles as we worked to address this inequity, to the incredible staff at the Guild and the Health Plan, and to the PWGA Trustees for their continued allyship and advocacy.
Getting the call near the end of my (first?) two-year term — that we successfully found a way to make progress — moved me to happy tears. Happy tears! In 2025!
I was Vice Chair of the LGBTQ+ Writers Committee when this began, and fighting to achieve fairness and inclusivity on this issue is among the reasons I ran for Board of Directors in 2023.
As a gay man, I can safely say that medical infertility is not the reason I can’t conceive a child without assistance.
On August 1, 2025 — that changes, and we have added coverage for some pre-surrogacy services.

Celebrating a huge win today.
In 2022, the @writersguildwest health plan added infertility benefits that, due to the need for a medical diagnosis, wound up being inaccessible to many LGBTQ+ and single WGAW members.
While the studio audience – and many viewers - clearly agreed with the eloquent sentiment, the show’s bosses did not. Now it looks like Colbert may not even make it to the end of the series next year, as, according to journalist Rob Shuter, there have been words had with Colbert, and they have come “very close” to pulling him off-air. After reportedly calling a emergency meeting the morning after Cobert’s show aired, two senior executives reportedly said: “He's daring us to fire him. And honestly? We’re close to doing it. He’s been warned. What he said was unacceptable. There are real consequences this time.”
Supposedly after pretending it was about money they're just openly talking in meetings about how they'll trash contracts and fire comedians for the absolutely unprescedented act of... making fun of the president on a late night talk show.
Dictator shit.
A screenshot of a Writers Guild of America West Board of Directors candidate website featuring a currently serving member seeking reelection, a white male with close cropped hair on the sides wearing a dusty pink suit with a floral mesh undershirt, arms crossed in front, with a gold necklace, dark purple nail polish, a watch, and a stack of engagement ring and wedding band
Mostly off of social media these days (because this is the bad place), but somehow it’s WGAW election season again.
Members, please read my platform at the link. It’s been an honor to serve this membership. I’d be thrilled if you would endorse me for reelection!

Booking flights now requires me to select my gender, Male or Female, and honestly this travel app yelling at me to choose a gender makes me want to use he/they pronouns more - because I’ve been evaluating my gender identity (TBH, I feel he/him ~95% of the time), but also to say fuck you to this shit
Has there ever been a NYT opinion piece admonishing right wingers to stop snubbing their non-conservative/straight/cis/etc family?
Why is it *always* on the left to accept right wingers?
This is exactly right. Also, during the Biden administration, the owners of the tech sector experienced the beginning of meaningful anti-monopoly regulations from the federal government.
They went fascist to crack down on worker power and destroy regulations. Classic move!
Drove by the federal building in West Los Angeles… on a quiet, overcast Sunday morning… and there are still armed forces guarding it like it’s a FOB in a war zone.
What a pathetic, fascistic waste of taxpayer dollars.
There are so few pleasures in life right now, why spoil this one?
The clearly AI-powered dubbing on @wowpresentsplus.bsky.social’s newly released international Drag Races seasons (All Stars France and Brazil S2) would be terrible enough. But the app doesn’t give subscribers an option to choose the original language audio and subtitles! Don’t force this 💩 on us.
As a former tutor who did quite well on the SATs, I came here to well actually, but someone beat me to it anyway an average of over 700 across the three test areas is still significantly above average so fuck that take
I choose to celebrate us.
(And agree genuinely nice guy)
I worked for that guy! The guitar serenading became extremely optional and limited to Fridays after room wrap. Pontificating was off-book
Oh no, is this why half off my original concepts are “this could all be real or the main character could just be having a psychotic break”

A man wearing a dark blue Henley under a textured light blue bomber jacket and a gold necklace, from the shoulders up
A man seated wearing a red leather jacket over a patterned white polo and camel jeans, with a smile on one side of his face
A man holding his textured red blazer with black tuxedo lapel open to reveal a white v-neck undershirt, on a dark background, from the torso up

Collective action is a right. Protest is a right.
David Huerta, SEIU California President, was injured + detained for standing with workers.
The WGAW stands with him—and with all unions defending our rights. #FreeDavidHuerta #Solidarity #WGAStrong
We've reached the point in our descent into fascism where the Jewish governor's house getting firebombed on Passover by a guy trying to bash his head in with a sledgehammer is overshadowed by the story of the President saying he wants to build foreign gulags for US citizens.
Calm down, folks, it was just an attempted assassination of a Jewish Democratic governor and his family on the first night of Passover, it’s not like somebody spray painted a dick on a Cybertruck.
Finally some good news!!!!
