This is like finding every episode of Johnny Carson's Tonight Show in HD. We have simply never heard the father of all blues/rock music this clearly before.

In case you missed it, I wrote about a PHANTOM OF THE OPERA screening at the Lincoln Theatre in Maine last month. It was an excuse for me to express some opinions about silent film accompaniment, and I also dug up a review of the film from when it played the Lincoln on first run in 1926!

Two thoughts: This gave me the first spark of hope that Lav Diaz will someday win an Oscar. (That he likely doesn't care about that matters more, of course.) And secondly, "competence porn" is now one of my favorite word pairings.

We’re at a point where we need to get back to the basics of film and television and toss away the bells, whistles and bright shiny lights of empty style and computer effects. And we need to let the people who know how to do this take over again.
