I've lived in Texas and Florida and don't recall anything being closed. I think its observance by government is a Minnesota thing.

Spending Soars, Rankings Fall at New College of Florida Student outcomes and rankings are slipping at the liberal arts college while spending is up. Critics believe the college is at risk of implosion, and some are calling for privatization.

You'll be shocked to learn New College of Florida is on the brink of implosion just a couple of years after DeSantis engineered an extreme right-wing takeover

Fun fact: NCF's new overlords spend $134K per student (!!...the average at other FL publics is $10K) www.insidehighered.com/news/governa...

Typepad is shutting down today. That deadline came up quickly. It’s the last day to export any content. Micro.blog and WordPress both support importing Typepad archives.

The Summer That Sting Set Himself Free A vivid memory has kicked off a few days of music nostalgia. It's 1985 and I'm driving home from the only job in my life that gave me any working-class cred, a summer gig pulling up and replacing carp...

The documentary about the making of that album is interesting. workbench.cadenhead.org/news/3889/su...

I haven't been to a Cracker Barrel in 20 years but I am outraged about the new logo and I'm going to tell you why all day today and then forget everything I said tomorrow.

I dream of living somewhere big enough for good food and culture and small enough to need no HOV lanes.

“Here, under protest, is ‘beef burgers.’”

Back in the 1980s, you had to hang with audio engineers to hear the legendary Orson Welles clip, “Frozen Peas.” 🧵 1/2

There is no better place. Amazon has 70% of the ebook market and Kindle Unlimited has 3 million subscribers.

In my HOA I've apologized to neighbors who deserved no apology just to reduce the chances I ever had to deal with them or with neighbors they stirred up with their nonsense.

One of my recurring themes on Reddit is to warn people to think twice before going to war with their neighbors. Asshat neighbors have more time than you do. It's asymmetric warfare.

I see you're having a problem that broke code on your webserver. I don't know anything about how to solve it, but here's what an AI chatbot said you should do. I don't know if it's correct any more than the AI does. #TheLeastICouldDo

my favorite bluesky arguments are the long drawn-out ones where person a responds via direct reply and person b exclusively answers through quote-posts. it's like seeing two people arguing on the street with one person facing sideways and shouting into the open door of a baskin robbins

Ian became a cautionary tale in framing something provocatively to get attention and not liking the attention he got. Think piece writers will tell each other of his sad fate in furtive whispers. And think pieces.

Either that or you failed to read the room. Fun was being had and you said "not on my watch!"

You said yourself the framing might be bad. It is. I noped out of reading after the author said "the left is completely silent on the subject of men getting laid."

Big fan of Mad Men, but I feel like an idealized version of what the womanizing, office-boozing, sexually harassing 1960s male got away with is not a helpful guide to modern masculinity.

Looks like the time I spent integrating with ID.me’s API was wasted. Micro.blog is too small to get approved for production access. The open web is so ingrained in me that I see an OAuth API and assume I’ll be able to use it in some form.

The new Packers president is Ed Policy, which sounds like a name any organization could count on for informed leadership. I haven't been this jealous over an advantageous surname since I met Java book author Peter Coffee.

The TMZ snark and claim I'm engaging in cope (self-deception) are both needless personal swipes.

When I was a reporter in the Paleozoic Era we treated public figures different than non-notable people in terms of what we would reveal. The latter was treated with a higher amount of privacy. This is kind of similar.
