Free iPads ruined kids’ reading in Norway. Now it’s fighting back The nation’s libraries offer rollerskating, rap workshops — and, most importantly, books to reverse the decline caused by a classroom tech experiment

Look how Norway is fighting back at screens. www.thetimes.com/world/europe...

Hey, look at Substack promoting Andrew Tate as the #1 new bestseller. The company's amoral leadership & backers will platform anyone, even ludicrously toxic rapists & human traffickers.

And again, my quibbles aren't important.

Sharing your journey took guts because, as you know, the React community closes ranks hard whenever it feels threatened, going to pretty extreme lengths (calling people's bosses, etc.) to override reasonable engineering choices.

Posting here in case you came across the same post. Someone talked about having a better llm ui architecture where they do the markdown to html on the server side in python so the frontend stays light. I would be very indebted if i found that github link

saw a bskweet that I lost where someone had a github project for efficient LLM chat rendering. pushes markdown to html rendering on the python BE side so we have a light frontend. They talked about it as an obvious better architecture. I want to try it out desperately I hope this reaches the OP.

llm-ui library in my case

thats seems too much of a utilitarian view of language. It's for the love of language itself! except for that fact that its a brilliant tool to explore the self, identity, and be exposed to entirely new modes of thought.

I'm talking about actual usage at scale too. I am not talking about "change the theme of shadcn". The problem is people don't really understand what "theme" means. It's not skinning, it's changing the language itself. Which means all "default" shadcn classes stop working. That's a design system.

.. (and I was those people for years). You can have a system where whatever nouns you see in figma are exactly the nouns in code. figma -> button-top-spacing. code -> pt-button-top-spacing. this is LLM gold

2. React Aria is great but no one can beat @haz.dev at a11y components, specially selection

.. tailwind is the best tool for building a design system where the technology enables you to turn your hyperspecific system into a language that can't express anything outside the system. most people either conflate tailwind with tailwinds default theme or just dont use it enough without prejudice.

1. as a tailwind hater for the longest time, one only thinks tailwind is bad for design systems if they don't understand the technology or think that their default theme is how one should code. what I learned after implementing a design system at scale with teams who are full of lazy FE folk - ..

haha fair, matt colquhoun's intro to a mark fisher book had this superfluous pointless babble nature so I can see where you're coming from. but a lot of books work differently!

also, I usually read the intro after I've read (and liked) the book and see if that helps recontextualise/situate

I wish to myself many-a-times I broke up on better terms. Since she speaks a tribal language only 40,000 people know! It faces the danger of being lost to time over centuries and it would have been nice to train an LLM that speaks it. There's no easy way for me to generate a dataset now.

TIL Nagamese is an Assamese creole. I always knew they were related for obvious reasons but I thought they were sisters. Bit embarrassing since I care about languages (self proclaimed) and my close friend(s) from 8-10 years are Naga and I was dating one for 6-7 years.
