In Memory of a Musical Titan: RIP Mike Westbrook (1936-2026) It was with considerable sadness that I learned of the death, a few days ago, of the great composer, bandleader, pianist and occasional horn-player Mike Westbrook, just weeks after his 90th birthda…

Very sorry to hear we have lost Robert Duvall, a very great actor (my faves inevitably include The Chase, The Rain People, The Godfathers, The Outfit, True Confessions, Tender Mercies) and occasional director. Greatly enjoyed interviewing him for The Apostle. RIP.

Classic film of the week: The Misfits (1961) John Huston’s latter-day western exerts a doomy, morbid fascination that goes beyond what we see on the screen. Our hindsight knowledge of the stars — Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable and Montgomery Clift

1/31/61: The Misfits
D: John Huston/W: Arthur Miller/ DP: Russell Metty
w/Gable, Monroe, Clift, Ritter, Wallach
