Ronald Searle. One of my favorite illustrators with a nib and a bottle of ink. Here is a cat he painted as a gift for the actor James Mason done in 1953. It needs to be reframed cause it’s falling apart, but it’s the original frame Ronald chose! #caturday

I visited the National portrait gallery in D.C. and was moved by an exhibit:
“PICTURES OF BELONGING”Featuring three Japanese-American artists: Mimi Hayakawa, Hisako Hibi, and Miné Okubo. Paintings of their experiences in “relocation centers” and in 1940s America (Painting below sign was Hayakawa’s)

The beauty and heartbreak captured by these artists were so incredibly moving and inspiring.
These three portraits painted by Hisako Hibi were so intimate and sensitive I could feel what they were all thinking. Also captured details that brought me to my own parents.

These two were done by Miné Okubo. The texture in the hair of the first portrait was hypnotic in real life. The third photo is Okubo in her studio in New York in the 1950’s. It was amazing to discover these influential artists. Please go see the exhibition if you have the chance

Just joined and thought I’d share some doodles. This is a character I based off of our French bulldog. He’s a hard working artist/tinkerer named Mochocho. He always shows up in my notebooks to inspire me to make something.
