This last contribution also illustrates how influential actors may impact political structures. This could serve as a call for responsibility.

Our results also epitomize the complex secondary effects of elites' influence. Elites can combat extremism taking those into account.

These results speak to three different literatures:
- Democratic erosions and the ways to prevent it (while focusing on the interwar period).
- The importance of religion in politics.
- The role of elites in shaping political structure.

Following the condemnation:
- The number of AF branches decreased in the most religious areas.
- A new, more secularized, base was built for the movement.

Consequence: The organization of the movement changed.

In 1926, Pope Pius XI condemned L'Action Francaise (AF). This monarchist movement had a strong Catholic base. Following the condemnation, "Catholiques de l'Action Française" had to choose between their allegiance to the Church and their allegiance to l'AF.

We use data on bankruptcies during the rail expansion in 19th century Britain. In a small geographic cell, a connection to the rail increased employment and bankruptcies in manufacturing. Market integration triggered organizational changes in this sector. Some workers exited as a result.
