A fair number of prog fans I know from back in the day were just as much fans of jazz and particularly jazz fusion represented in that time by folks like Jean-Luc Ponty. One of my favorite albums from 1978 with surreal cover art by David Levitan is Cosmic Messenger.

Quite the collection! Cosmic Messenger was my first Ponty experience and I recall catching him in concert a couple times, on the lawn at Ravinia as I recall. Great music to paint minis by! This album dropped the same year as the 1E AD&D Players Handbook.
