I saw the word TTS and for a second I thought of Tung Tung Sahur instead of Text to Speech 💀💀💀💀💀

Incredible. Will watch no matter what. A trailer like this, that is this long, for a show that isn't due for over a year? Production must've been healthy. Lowkey reminds me of The Elusive Samurai, 2024's best anime.

Losing faith in India every passing minute. Genuinely can't complain about US nonsense when back home it's just as bad. Like this latest Mata Vaishno Devi Medical College debacle. Working in education makes me more sensitive to the fact that screwing with student futures is just 💔💔💔

This is an achievement on par with Yamamoto Souichirou getting three of his works adapted into anime in the same year, 2022 (they even aired in back to back seasons iirc).

This anime season, we have:

Yuusha-kei ni Shosu

Yuusha Party o Oidasareta Kiyou binbou

and

Yuusha Party ni Kawaii Ko ga Ita node, Kokuhaku shitemita.

Has there been another moment in anime history with three concurrently airing titles that begin with the same word?

Hyakuemu's acclaim reminded me of the Uoto interview asking about anime influences where they went "idk I don't watch much, but I love Eupho & Shirobako so much they gotta be influential for me". Wanted to rant so much about Kumiko and Myaamoru it split off into a separate blurb. Truly based author

Knew Ikoku Nikki was going to be good because the source material rules and the staff's good, but goddamn what an amazing first episode. So far brilliant structure to bypass pacing issues, direction that really understands the core of the series, and waaaay better animation than it'll get credit for

An image from the manga Suiiki by Yuki Urushibara, depicting a dam with the reservoir behind the walls and the river flowing out of it. Deep beneath the waters of the reservoir lies the sunken ancestral village of the manga's main character. The reservoir subtly resembles a womb, the dam a vagina, and the river an umbilical cord. It reflects how the village was ultimately what birthed our main character and how it still remains connected to her through the water (she lives in a modern town downstream from the river, which is the source of her home's water supply).

Urushibara Yuki the GOAT. There's a scene in Suiiki where the MC realizes her ancestral village doesn't exist anymore (sunk by a dam) but still birthed her and lives on through her. Then I see this panel. The unmistakably earthy, feminine imagery of a womb, vagina, and umbilical cord. It's genius.

A subtitled sound effect from the new English edition of Mushishi. The original sound effect is over art with rough line art and dense screen tone. The line art was drawn approximately up to the edges of the katakana, and sometimes the screen tone is scraped away. The english sound effect is in an area with more dense line art, so it has an uneven outline made of the screen tone to keep the letters legible. Those outlines keep the tone contiguous with the art. White scraping is also visible.

There's a new English release of Mushishi, lettered by Phil Christie (@kernedout.bsky.social). I adore how Urushibara-sensei utilizes texture in her art, and how the sound effects inherit that texture. Phil does an amazing job replicating that with subtitled SFX. Notes in alt text!

There's that one European country where they put a fish in the bathtub for Christmas so ig a bathtub is technically an aquarium, and thus an ideal setting for yuri.
