NIH grant terminations affected women scientists more than men, study finds A new paper shows that women, particularly those early in their careers, have been disproportionately affected by NIH grant terminations.

When I retired only around 25% of Full Professors in STEM were women. I was proud be one of them, and to support the success of fellow women in STEM through mentoring.

This was not an organic process. It took hard work and persistence.

And now The Regime is setting us back decades.

Emotional faculty meeting, highlighting legislation that is likely to bring down our union. Because of @superhh.bsky.social and other colleagues, I had the parental leave I needed to spend hours in the NICU every day when my son was born. This supported his health and mine. @uffuf.bsky.social

We can’t stress enough how urgent it is for faculty at UF and across the FL public sector to support your public employee’s union.

Your CBA and bargaining power can disappear in a flash with this terrible — and likely illegal — bill….

SB1296 solves no problems: It CREATES a crises for working people.

FL SB 1296 creates 2 distinct classes of public employees: one with substantially less right to freely associate & collectively bargain than the other. Both rights are guaranteed by our state constitution! Lobbyists admitted their core intention is to eliminate public unions.👇

Have you made a phone call to your FL state senator TODAY to oppose SB 1296?

If not: take 2 minutes time to 📞 your representative. Republican and Democrat senators are working together to defeat this bill & need to hear loud & clear: stand with public employees. No on 1296!

Opinion: Take your feet off our necks Against my better judgment to not put sensitive information in writing — the greatest, yet-to-be-censored lesson the regents still ought to learn — I’m confessing my feelings: I’m exhausted. The regents have officially graduated from demoting deans, botching a professor hiring and firing lecturers to eliminating our Women’s and Gender Studies program. Care to guess...

Mail your PERC ballots back to PERC, UF faculty. The deadline is early next week so mail TODAY. Why does this matter & what can we do about it?

UF faculty! Eligible faculty (those represented by UFF regardless of membership status) were mailed a ballot from FL Public Employees Relations Commission this week. It’s VERY important to open, vote, stamp, sign & return this. Why should you vote YES & 📪 ? ⬇️

When Robert P. George Was Offered the U. of Florida Presidency A new Chronicle investigation of Mori Hosseini, long the most powerful person at the red-state flagship, revealed a key moment in a Republican power struggle.

UF’s Presidential Search Advisory Committee just announced listening sessions & links so campus stakeholders can guide & participate in the search process.

Meanwhile the CHE & @GarrettShanley report that Gov. DeSantis already flew to NJ & offered RP George the UF presidency.

How else can I help besides mailing back this PERC ballot? The 2023 union-busting bill demands that we repeat this costly, time-consuming ritual annually until we reach 60% membership density. So you can help most by helping in-unit colleagues to JOIN UFF.

A reminder of WHY this is happening: recent state laws want to nullify collective bargaining & decertify public unions statewide. So this process is by state design.

BUT we will NOT let the state rob UF faculty of a right enshrined in our state constitution. Keep watch for the ballot shown above!

3 months ago 1 2 1 0

What’s at stake? A majority yes vote means UFF retains the legal right to represent UF faculty for 12 more mos.

Otherwise UFF-UF will be decertified, UF faculty’s entire Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) will cease to exist, & UF faculty will no longer have a union or a collective voice.
