The Philippines are awfully far west of Alaska. These storms will hit mainland China, Taiwan, Maybe southern Japan or Korea, and will fall apart before getting very far north.

Well, yes. Global sea surface temperature has risen 1 degree C since the 1980s. Local temperatures are up to 5 C higher. East of the Philippines is about 1.5 to 2.0 C warmer.
