Zambian football player Barbra Banda is an amazing human interest story. One of about half a dozen 5-ARD male players in the NWSL, he was born in an impoverished country and tried boxing before soccer, to now find himself trapped by lies and his own success in a female league.

I do not envy him.

No significant injuries, blister which is no problem now and some chafing on my back from carrying my phone in the back of my race vest but I did a short run today and all seemed fine. 👍

Thanks, completed my race 🎉

More unrunnable sections & stairs not anticipated & hotter than expected so ran out of water & so stopped at all 💧stations, never stopped in a race b4. Brutal hill at the end! Really enjoyed it & was 4th W but 1st & 2nd a long way ahead, 3rd maybe I cd catch next year 🙂

Thanks for the tips. I've been ill, just trying to do everything I can to be recovered. Suddenly splits don't seem a priority, I'll check out the podcasts. A playlist is a good idea.. not something I've ever thought of needing in a race despite always listening to music or podcasts during long runs.

England playing Afghanistan heralds day of unmitigated shame Despite the Taliban’s obscene misogyny, cricket’s male-dominated governing bodies lack gumption to refuse to play

Excoriating and accurate.

Afghanistan, until women are allowed to play cricket locally & internationally the men’s team should be banned from cricket worldwide… #r4today

Thank you. I still feel worried about running 48K. I know what 42 feels like and an extra 6 seems 😬.. I know the point is to run it slower but it's daunting.

I once did a marathon without proper training (due to injury) and could hardly walk afterwards or for the next two days 😅

Do you think the initial jump in your HR is legit or just a watch error? Is it a watch HRM or a chest strap?

I decided to do loops along a bridalway with a crosswind.

Hope you're enjoying mocking me, not sure what I've done to deserve that.

I'm new on here and I searched for SHERaces as there's a womens trail series and I'm running my first ultra next month.

Sorry, should I have checked with someone before I indulged my own interests? Can I have my own views?

I don't know how this discussion has got here, I feel like you're being rude and exclusionary towards me.

Excluding me, a woman, from your ideas about feminism and issues that I have had to deal with in my life feels pretty unfair.

I am totally with you on this too, everyone should be able to participate.

Yes 👍. I did 36 last weekend and 35 the weekend before.

So for my 48K race I add 8K for the 800m elevation to make 56K and calculate my time based on easy pace for that distance?

What I meant was that the reason sport is categorised into M and F at all is for fairness and that requires sex.

Categorising by gender identity doesn't help with fairness, it causes unfairness, but it's done for other reasons.

I completely agree that it's wrong to pretend sex can change. We shouldn't conflate sex and gender, I think it's cruel and wrong to do so, for me that's a hill worth dying on.

Yes I think it is, it's an out- and-back along the Rhone riverside, has a steep (tarmac) downhill start so equivalent steep end and at the halfway there's some bits of climb but all of it is runnable if say.

And people can run "as their identified gender", nobody is dictating what people wear or look like, but the race categories are sex categories, not gender categories. The reasons for categorisation are sex based, not gender identity based.

No not at all, it would not be fair or right to force people into an "other" category based on their gender identity.

We should be honest & accepting of our sex, which cannot change. There should be no shame in being trans or not conforming to gender stereotypes & female athletes shld be respected.

And in many races everyone does run together, 8yo is a bit young but in all road races including marathons, everyone runs together, we have no idea what category they registered in so the way we compare & enjoy a meaningful race achievement is by looking at the categorised results.

1 year ago 0 0 1 0

Exactly, it's not helpful for 8yo girls to compare themselves with 50yo women or 8yo boys, this is exactly why we have sex/age categories.

It's demoralising for girls to compare their performances with boys who have to put in less effort, be less fit or less talented to achieve the same result.

Thanks. It might be too late for me to do back to back long runs but I'm doing consecutive days so e.g. 12K then 25-35K weekends.

Can't bring myself to take gels in training, if I'm running slower I feel I don't need them. Not had problems in marathons (but did practice). Good luck in your 50K.

What is the difference between a trans woman & a man? It's my understanding that a trans woman does not need to be taking hormones or have had any surgery to be considered a trans woman. So in those cases how can there be any difference between the sports performance of a man and the trans women?

Maybe they are fitter than you?

I too am beaten by younger people regularly and there are some very fast guys who push buggies around some courses.

I'm running my first ultra in a couple of weeks - 48K after years of road running including marathons, this is just what I was looking for.. thanks for sharing!

I think she has a chronic knee injury now, but she did have to compete against doping east german swimmers for many years so she knows a lot about unfairness in competetive sport.

I love the research Sophie did showing how women are disadvantaged and opt out of marathon and longer distances. Female participation in ultras is absolutely shocking, I've just signed up for my first ultra and looking at last years results, only 8 women took part.

#UltraSky #ultrarunning

I've signed up for my very first ultramarathon.. easing myself in with a 48K 8th March

I've only really done flat road marathons... this has 800m elevation gain.. what do I need to know?

How do I pace it? Gels? In road marathons I target a slight negative split. Help!

1 year ago 6 0 3 0

I've signed up for my first ultramarathon, 8th March. I've given birth and run marathons (both 5 times) and they are definitely comparable!

I agree male recreational runners commonly have more drive to push themselves to their limits, but we can too if we want to.

- Total Athlete list updated. 170 named athletes have been added, bringing the total to 792 named and 104 unnamed athletes on the list. There have been at least 896 males in women's sports. More athletes to be added.

Why be so abusive?

There are trans athletes taking spots and accolades from women and girls in almost every sport. It only takes one or two to cause unfairness to large numbers of girls and women who miss out on accolades & opportunities. www.hecheated.org/updates
