Opinion | DEI and Disparate Impact The next step in restoring meritocracy is to reject the theory that proportionate outcomes equal fairness.

this is the "merit" two-step. first, you strongly imply or state outright that the presence of anyone who isn't a straight, able-bodied white man is unfair "DEI," then you argue that just because an institution is all-male and lily-white doesn't mean there is discrimination. that's just merit!

As China is finding out, it’s risky being our foe - as Canada and Mexico are finding out, it’s riskier being our friend.

As I heard someone so poignantly say, “Teachers should not be setting themselves on fire to keep their classrooms warm.”

We need adequate pay, student to teacher ratios, support from the community, the schools, the district, the state department of public instruction, and THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY. These conditions need to be present at EVERY school for EVERY child.

NC schools are struggling to hire special education teachers. Parents are filing complaints New complaints follow years of a worsening shortage of special education teachers that's leaving schools without qualified faculty and students without properly provided services.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. We do NOT have a shortage of teachers. We have a shortage of TEACHING CONDITIONS BEING DESIRABLE!

Me, a public health person, just sitting over here reflecting on the fact that the US has experienced a 7% increase in infant mortality post-Dobbs.

Like, do you realize what that says about this society from an ethical perspective? That we made policy choices that caused this?

The sacred pause between the election and what comes next There are plenty of fires to fight right now in America, but there’s a fire inside you, too. Appreciate this sacred pause—this space between fires—and let your flame find its way.

The philosopher Viktor Frankl said, “Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.” Buddhists have a name for that space: the sacred pause.

Of misogyny, Musk, and men Women are not okay. We're furious.

I was getting very frustrated by the male-dominated punditry about the election, and very little space being given to women, and the rage that so many of us feel right now. So I wrote something: www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
