-re (input) Read input at native frame rate. Mainly used to simulate a grab device, or live input stream (e.g. when reading from a file). Should not be used with actual grab devices or live input streams (where it can cause packet loss). By default ffmpeg attempts to read the input(s) as fast as possible. This option will slow down the reading of the input(s) to the native frame rate of the input(s). It is useful for real-time output (e.g. live streaming). A 2 V Brad 5 years ago Don't use -re. It's totally inappropriate for this use case. You want to stream from the source as fast as it will go, which for a realtime stream will be in realtime at the rate of the encoder. A 1 • iangetz 5 years ago They didn't specify if the HLS stream they're trying to capture to MP4 was live or VOD. The FFmpeg documentation states -re should be used for live input streams so I wouldn't say it's totally inappropriate. A 0 Brad 5 years ago It doesn't matter if it's live or not. If you use -re, it will attempt to use the local clock to time the input, buffering as-needed. With clock drift over time, this will not stay in-sync. The stream should be read as fast as possible, which will then follow the source encoder. A 0 dA AxelTheGerman 4 years ago @iangetz the docs are a bit difficult to read at times, but they state A) Mainly used to simulate [...] live input stream and B) Should not be used with actual [...] live input streams (where it can cause packet loss). but jerry i love trying to parse stackoverflowbros screaming at each other about the fact that the -re flag is totally inappropriate for this use case.

tysm! i could also just download the video if the vod-beta server has com.atproto.sync.getBlob implemented or any way to get the raw mp4 and not an HLS stream. (despite making an app that uses HLS, i am still not very good at HLS or ffmpeg's cli)

not trying to rush you! sorry should have clarified what i meant
i was more trying to ask "when it's ready (enough), if the jam is still going (which obv is a big if), will you wait until it's over to release it?"

Being critical of something you're a part of is how you avoid being in a cult.

Amazing! Thank you so much for all this work!
My main question: will we have to wait the full two weeks for an official Streamplace VOD viewer? I'd love a stable viewer so I can have links I can send to my friends and family

2 hours ago 1 0 1 0

right now we're focused on shortform but we're excited by streamplace's work for longform

the indoor sunglasses really sell it

@stream.place is doing this already! they already started with VODs which allows them to continue on to longform video, which they've explicitly said they're interested in

It seems OpenAI's Codex code has been leaked as well...

this.
claude code is no better atp than opencode or codex. there is no "secret sauce" and their derangement about guarding its source so closely just shows how much they have their head up their ass

every time it's leaked, ppl just point out how its nothing special and then get DMCA'd into the sun

I'm not talking about OAuth for HTTPS Git commits, I'm talking about personal access tokens like GitHub and GitLab have that are just used with Git password auth.
Those are much better for CI environments than OAuth.

Hi! Could you share the error you're getting? I'm trying to work through all the OAuth errors people are getting.

Btw if anyone @tangled.org is listening, it would make it infinitely easier to mirror to tangled if you could add personal access tokens to knots like github and gitlab let you do.
Having to setup SSH keys in a GitHub action is not a great experience...

The website was amazing! so happy to have contributed.

Can the websites for previous years be archived/kept up so they're still available? (e.g. this one would be 2026.atmosphereconf.org, the same way the state of js surveys do 2025.stateofjs.com)

i've never seen anyone use HTTP or SMTP used lowercase in a sentence. it's fine to have those as lowercase versions but we need an uppercase variant.

lowercase: atproto
uppercase: ATproto

aw shit someone already bought it :(
this is very funny but could you maybe clarify/direct people to the real profile (and/or redirect to my website on the domain)?

i know my family sent the stream to a lot of people who don't follow me online and might try to look "knotrobin dot com" up.

One of the reasons that the willful blindness about AI from people with platforms on the left is shortsighted is that “hope it goes away” doesn’t have a great track record as a strategy for contesting control of new political domains and technologies.

atproto is fine but at the start of the sentance it would be Atproto which is awful. This is why ATproto is objectively correct and @dholms.at should issue a correction.

I could have sworn blobs didn’t have to be on the PDS. I remember reading docs about it. Maybe I’m crazy but I was like 99% sure blobs didn’t have to be on the pds

1 day ago 1 0 0 0

I think if it’s not on the PDS you have to put a full url
