#5. This is an ongoing "leadership review", in effect. The tendency now is to maintain party discipline and solidarity which I believe is a mistake. The Liberals have been effective in letting leaders who have passed their prime know that they should leave. You need independent minded MPs for that

Rachel, have to disagree on floor crossing. I was Parliamentary Counsel in Alberta. Let me try to persuade you. In the early British system, which we inherited, there were no parties. After an election, the King or Queen would ask someone who had followers, to form a government. (#1)

I was Parliamentary Council at the Alberta Legislature for 5 years in the 1990's. I agree: I saw a lot of apolitical work done on both sides to make legislation better for the people of Alberta. But both sides have to be willing. I dont think Smith's ACP is willing.
