After a very quiet couple of weeks on the patch we had a double wader whammy this morning, first @alpavey.bsky.social finding a Redshank (5th patch record) before I stumbled across this lovely Avocet, only the 3rd patch record. Finished off with drake Gadwall and a Barnacle #kentbirding
Nice patch visit this morning nothing spectacular but the first singing Chiffchaff of the year a drake Wigeon, 7 Little Egrets and Peregrine certainly kept me entertained. Pic from a couple of days ago, although still frosty this morning.
Kestrel at Sissinghurst NT this morning.
Iโm normally around 115 but had 125 last year. I think @mardenmark.bsky.social hit 129 or 130. Iโm a bit ahead of last year at this stage.
50 species on patch this morning, including no.80 for the patch this year with an ad Med Gull first seen by @mardenmark.bsky.social yesterday other bits included 35 Tufted Duck, 2 Little Egret, Grey Wagtail, Raven and 10 Mute Swans, a high count for here.
Decent local birds this morning on a farm survey and short patch visit, 2 Woodcock, one at each location, 2 R L Partridge, not common in the parish then 3 Little Egrets and a Great White roosting together on patch. Fieldfare and Redwing numbers seem low locally from what Iโve seen.
A good morning and short afternoon visit on patch today, with 2 White-fronted Geese, Great Egret, Barnacle Goose and Little Egret. Now 73 on patch for the year.
Pretty good start to the year on patch 67 species so far today added Barn Owl and this redhead Goosander.
A rare venture off patch yesterday to look for another patchworkers great find! No great pics but great to catch up with so many birders and have some great views of this bright yellow American visitor.
Slightly longer patch visit this morning, highlights were, 3 Teal, 6 Snipe, Green Sandpiper and good views of Water Rail. Visibility was mostly poor but quite atmospheric!
