Starmer didn't appoint Mandelson; Mandelson appointed Starmer
Today in our latest post-show discussion, editor @hollywilliams.bsky.social talks to playwright Anya Reiss about her new version of A Doll’s House at the Almeida, dir. Joe Hill-Gibbins: mining finance bros for insights, writing for her friend Romola Garai, and her decisions to deviate...

For the Labour government, if you're not an old white man convinced fascism is the only way forward, you are not part of "the people"
You are part of naive youth, the woke identity politics minorities, white liberals etc but you are not "the people" and it doesn't matter if you're the vast majority
Organisations of the Labour right have long existed- the Campaign for Democratic Socialism in the 1960s & after but Labour Together was different, not in its politics but in how it was run & funded. @johnmcdonnellmp.bsky.social rightly called for an investigation in the Commons

Does Keir Starmer know why he is Prime Minister & what the point of a Starmer Premiership is? As Marina Hyde writes: "Cleaning up after himself has become a full-time job." Can't wait to have it all explained in the Tom Baldwin revised biography.

“Reefer Madness,” the comically self-serious and outrageous 1936 morality tale, became an unintentional parody and midnight-movie classic decades later. Today, it also stands as a key artifact of a particular brand of moral panic of the 1930s. nyti.ms/4mDJMvj

We’re defending Western Civilization by kicking Plato and Shakespeare out of university classes.
Worth noting that while Keir Starmer is being very indignant over proper appointment procedures, he appointed the current cabinet secretary through an expedited process *in the middle of the Mandelson scandal*.
It's just interesting how every time we hear a new tale of bumbling incompetence or blatant corruption which traces back to his hand and his desk, there suddenly appears a 3-layer firewall of aides who were concealing it all from him. It makes you wonder if the PM is in charge of anything at all.
Trying to protect Keir Starmer by constantly defectling blame to an ever-extending list of malicious/deceiving/incompetent actors only begs the question as to why he was repeatedly sold to the public as a master operator if he's apparently barely even competent enough to tie his own shoes.

I'm a broken record on this but the radicalisation and brain rot of Gen X/boomers is a massively under-appreciated problem
