This survey last took place 5 years ago, and I'm guessing research culture is shifting in current climates. Please complete and share👇
If you need something a bit lighter right now, there’s an account on Tiqtoq called STP Guy who only posts reviews of sticky toffee puddings from across the UK. It’s 👌🏼
AI could be hugely beneficial to the NHS, but only if it augments, not replaces, human judgement, and is deployed with strong governance and equity-aware data.
Plus of course the challenges of workforce and infrastructure remain!
A new piece by me.

What do local services need to better support LGBTQ people? 🧵on what we learned from different professional and voluntary groups from across sectors (housing, health, social care, police) when asked what they want to see happen in future:
A black and white close-up shot of Professor Brian Cox, an astrophysicist, is shown with a quote from him. He is looking directly at the viewer with a slight, contemplative smile. His hands are clasped together just below his chin. The background is dark. The quote, in white text against a dark purple background, reads: "Real scientists are delighted when they find out they are wrong. And to me, that is one of the greatest gifts that a scientific education can bring. There are too many people in this world who want to be right. And too few who just want to know." Below the quote, also in white text, is his name and title: "- PROF. BRIAN COX, ASTROPHYSICIST". In the bottom left corner, there is a small logo for "LONG COVID ADVOCACY" which features an open hand symbol.
🌌 A timely reminder from Prof Brian Cox
The inability of the scientific & medical community to move on from the rehab model for #ME & #LongCovid stems from the simple issue that they don't want to be wrong.

Despite increasing efforts to widen participation, only 5% of entrants to medical school in 2021 came from the lowest socioeconomic groups.

As US economic policy shows in real time the importance of evidence and evaluation in policy, now seems a good moment to flag the UK Evaluation Registry.
UK Govt depts are required to upload all evaluations to it and there are 1,400 there so far

Monbiot nails it: "this is direct appeasement ... these people who go on and on about sovereignty, say they are the defenders of sovereignty, when it actually comes to the crunch they will sell anyone down the river."

If the government is serious about prioritising prevention, then some decisive, timely decisions need to be made about how money is distributed and managed in the NHS, says Siva Anandaciva.

I’ve always struggled with conscientious objection in healthcare. Add in the 21stC context of women’s access to healthcare & rights, I can see texts like this offer helpful insights. Will be having a read

It’s been brilliant. I’ve been recommending it all over!
"As the Darzi review made clear, the NHS is ‘still reeling from a turbulent decade’. Policymakers should be supporting the increasing amount of collaborative working now happening across the NHS, and wary of measures that might undermine or dilute it." Bryan Jones, Senior Improvement Fellow and Nicola Burgess, Senior Visiting Fellow at the Health Foundation
Bryan Jones and Nicola Burgess look at the possible impacts of a league table approach to distinguish between the best and worst performing NHS providers, and how policymakers can effectively support a collaborative environment and drive improvement.
