One time Nugget vomited all over herself and I was surprised to find I didn’t have as much to clean off the floor as expected. Cut to Bean the cat licking his vom-covered lips. Humbling moment

No worries! My Latin’s pretty pants but it sticks out as something I’ve seen before.
Is that Crastino Secundo?
A cute figurine of a bear made from amber. It looks like a gummy bear
A figurine of a hippo with a hole in his back and a loop of gold going through the hole. The figurine is made of a transparent glassy material. Rock crystal, perhaps. It looks not unlike a Foxe's glacier mint.
A carved bust of a bearded man in a brown material, against a red background. If you told us it was carved from chocolate, we wouldn't argue.
A figurine of a hippo in a green material (nephrite, apparently, whatever that is). It looks like it could be a wine gum, but one of the green ones that no one really likes.
Today we will be mainly posting pictures of artefacts that look like sweets. 🍬🍫
welcomed back from my maternity leave by my article appearing in advanced access for HWJ! open access an’ all. it’s about what we learn about the early modern state if we think about arrests as a performance, and draws on four years’ worth of practice-as-research.

Me opening my emails: Shall I at least set my lands in order?
Me five minutes later: Hieronymo’s mad againe
bought the Waitrose mini hot cross buns in an attempt to stave off my lust for plump dried fruit and enriched dough.

The singular "they" has been around longer than English has had codified grammar, so really, anyone who fumes about it can go fuck themself

it’s an indictment on my cat parenting, I’m sure… hope you’re having lots of fun with the kittens 😻
she’s only just beginning to have a relationship with Archie and Bean, who remain terrified of her, I couldn’t do that to them!

A fictional board game called "Accountants of the Hanseatic League".
Found the most bluesky board game possible.
ah yes, cats: the creatures who place themselves in the perfect spots to both kill their owner and take umbrage at having been tripped over
all sources are “biased”, and that doesn’t mean they’re of no historical utility.
me until around 4pm: oh we’re having such a good day today, aren’t we darling? doesn’t really matter that you’ve refused to nap!
me at 5:40pm, covered in eyeliner-streaked tears, banana and vomit:
having a twelfth century church on our doorstep wasn’t the main reason we stayed in Oxfordshire, but it’s a lovely bonus
parenthood is full of discoveries. for example, yesterday I got to experience what it feels like to be punched in the face by someone with a fistful of banana.

It doesn’t escape me that these are named after a woman and a teenage girl. It does not escape me that medical misogyny continues to kill.
Congrats Shirley!
just to be clear there is SO MUCH precedent for arresting a senior royal. just not any precedent where it ends well for them
it was as I vigorously lipsynched to the Lonely Island’s “Sushi Glory Hole” while folding laundry in front of my six month old that I thought, “gosh, my daughter is getting such a unique upbringing”.
Six (more) historians in my department have taken (been pressured into) voluntary redundancy. Since we cross teach, supervise, & tutor, politics staff now have more work to do. The solution? Pressure staff (those with the biggest caring & teaching commitments) to move onto teaching only contracts.
unforced error
Hey, Bluesky history nerds! Who are your favorite pre-modern historians on here?

A picture of Lucy, a white person with short blonde hair and glasses. The caption reads: “Star Chamber Mad Lad of the Week, episode 1: The arrest of William Stanhawe (1600)”.

I’ve started putting up some videos on my public Instagram, including this series I tentatively title “Star Chamber Mad Lad of the Week”. This week, it’s William Stanhawe’s fairly successful avoidance of arrest in 1609. #skystorians
