The Doomsday Glacier Is Getting Closer and Closer to Irreversible Collapse An analysis of the expansion of cracks in the Thwaites Glacier over the past 20 years suggests that a total collapse could be only a matter of time.

The shelf has completely separated from the seafloor. Cracks accelerate flow, generating more cracks. The process has changed from gradual weakening to active acceleration with the protective anchor point now a destabilizing factor. All the solar panels we can ever make won't stop this. #collapse

Modern climate change is 27x faster than historic global warming mass extinction events I first posted a version of this in 2019, at my old Wordpress blog, The Cottonwood Post. All of my recent postings (since December 2024) have been here at this Substack.

"There is some cause for optimism... After a hundred years of studying the impacts of fossil fuels on climate change, and decades of policy debates and international agreements and commitments, it seems that a falling population is the best thing we can do for the earth." #overshoot #collapse

"If you’re a walking to a cliff a mile away, you’re not stressing. But if you’re a mile away driving 100mph, you’re probably going to be a lot more concerned. And the faster and further you go, the less likely you can slow down enough or stop to keep from falling off the cliff."

Ohh, wasn't aware of this one. But every time I poke around the subject, it grabs me... even though I realize it IS just a marketing gimmick. But you want to sell me something, creativity and participation helps!

Hey, thanks! I found an actual use for my LinkedIn account from their website! I remember when Spielberg's AI came out with a similar scheme, and still annoyed I missed out on @ongs-hat.com's original concept in the early 90s...

Researchers find methane leaking out of cracks in Antarctic seabed One of the most potent greenhouse gas emissions has been discovered seeping out of cracks of the Antarctic sea floor, researchers have found.

Your 'moment of doom' for Oct. 11, 2025 ~ Everything is fine.

"The invisible gas can be seen in streams of bubbles originating on the seafloor of Antarctica's Ross Sea ... describing the mechanism as 'seemingly widespread' throughout the region... "

"If I drop a log into a river, I can point you in the general direction downstream where that log might end up in 10 minutes. It’s almost impossible to pinpoint that spot beforehand.

Predicting collapse is similar. All we know is there's whitewater and a cliff. Maybe rabid beavers."

"If we start designing things right away maybe solar powered banks could somehow still be churning out profits when all life on the planet has been lost. We need to take immediate action NOW before it's too late!"

The Light Pirate by Lily Brooks-Dalton

The Light Pirate by Lily Brooks-Dalton

Recommended. Moving and melancholy look at life in smalltown Florida as it sinks under rising seas while society collapses. Narrow and precise in focus, the tale is riveting and believable (albeit with magic realism woven in). Not hopium, but resilience and adaptation. #collapsebookclub

"I think we're a decade away from EU navies sinking refugee boats in the Mediterranean and fully militarised land borders. Probably after the first time that crop failures mean that EU countries are unable to feed their populations."

It's reasonably affordable, and I figure the sooner you dip in, the sooner those networks start forming. These days, time feels short...

I'm not particularly tech smart, but it does require a bit of effort. I suspect it'll get a lot smoother within a year. Also, currently way more useful if you have friends/family in same town. I like the lo-fi stealth aspects of it.

Curious if anyone else is trying out #meshtastic? I got mine after hearing the recent Live Like the World is Dying podcast episode. Internet and cell towers down? No problem. The refrigerator band (IoT) still works and you can text on it. 📻 #preparedness #climateprep #ecoprep

What we’re witnessing isn’t random.

It’s the logic of overshoot resolving itself - through the collapse of ecological integrity and civilisational complexity.

We can’t fix it, but we can decide how to live inside it - with clarity, attention, and integrity. 10/10

Qatar threatened to cut EU LNG supplies over sustainability law, letter shows Qatar has threatened to cut gas supplies to the European Union in response to the bloc's due diligence law on forced labour and environmental damage, a letter from Qatar to the Belgian government, seen by Reuters, showed.

Who was it that said switching to LNG would increase energy security? Oh yeah, the LNG lobby.

The EU now finds itself being blackmailed by Qatar - in addition to the US - over energy supplies if it doesn't weaken environmental protections. Expect more deregulation 😖
