Congratulations to Christophe who has just been appointed as a member of the Académie des Sciences for his work on surfaces and interfaces of functional materials and heterogeneous catalysts. He joins an outstanding group of scientists across disciplines, recognised through their appointments.

We are hiring two PhDs on our EU SMOM project for a late Sept 2026 start.
The projects will involve being trained, & becoming expert in, air sensitive, platinum group metal organometallics, single-crystal SMOM synthesis, reactivity, and deployment in sustainable catalysis.

We’re looking for an enthusiastic PhD student to join our vibrant research group. We have an opening for a PhD position to work on radical Frustrated Lewis pairs. Check out the link below for more information and contacts. ⬇️⬇️⬇️ www.findaphd.com/phds/project...
A bit early, but wishing everyone a good break at the end of the year.
Quite possibly the best pub in the world.

With @nicolegrobert.bsky.social we report straightforward approach to hex-BN fibres that uses catalytic methods for the controlled synthesis of BN-polymers, that are then used to fabricate hex-BN fibres. Such fibres could outperform carbon fibres in extreme environments. tinyurl.com/h4jwdv6s
York for me. It was good to meet up again, even if briefly.
Just left the excellent CanUK inorganic symposium in beautiful Quebec City. What a privilege to be part of such collegiate scientific discussion. With thanks to @barryblight.bsky.social Fred Fontaine & @rebeccamelen.bsky.social. À la prochaine!
An epic ride in an epic location, and some (hopefully) epic data!
Always nice to add a hard copy of a thesis to the “library”. A beautifully presented one from Dr Chloe Johnson. The third one from the York-years.
A really useful and timely contribution. Well done to Aishanee (and Dave).
We're recruiting a PDRA to work with our team at Oxford Chemistry @ox.ac.uk @oxfordchemistry.bsky.social ! If you are interested in synthetic inorganic chemistry and catalysis research, Apply!

Dalby Forest looking towards the hills behind Scarborough. Earlyish morning with my gravel bike. Not a soul around apart from me. At least 10 different birds are serenading me, damsel files and bumblebees keeping me company, and in the distance the bucolic lowing of cattle.
We're hiring: TWO 3-year PhD positions to develop Bimetallic Chemistry for CO2, N2O and NH3 activation under ERC Consolidator Grant BiMetalGAS

Another great collaboration with @macgregorgroupsta.bsky.social
A new(ish) anion on the block for SMOM chemistry. Kris Altus’ latest on the organometallic chemistry of [B(O2C2(CF3)4)2]−. As well as showing this anion is a useful one in organometallic chemistry there is a cautionary note about the toxicity of a starting material.

Gravel Riding in the Dalby Forest.
Great group, great PI and exciting chemistry.

I recommend this thought-provoking Grayson Perry documentary about his take on the US. Made pre-Covid. Prescient? I'll let you decide for yourself. I was reminded to watch it as we see events unfurl.

More and more stories like this coming out all the time.
I cannot and will not go to the US, nor send any of my group to the US, for any reason. It's simply not safe for any foreign visitor.
No conferences, seminars, collaboration visits, vacations, nothing.

A square planar Ru(II) complex, that dehydropolymerizes amine boranes to selectively give high molecular BN-polymers at low (0.03 mol%) catalyst loadings and high ToF (250 s-1). And a hydroxy-hydride as the species formed in the induction period as a bonus! onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/...
