Thanks go to our wonderful volunteers from Callander Community Development Trust and Woodland Trust Scotland - who had to battle through some truly Scottish weather conditions to get the job done!
With thanks also to Forth Climate Forest for funding, and to the landowner for the support.

Last week we completed tree planting work at Callandrade Meadows in parternship with Callander Community Development Trust. The 3.6ha site has been converted into a diverse mosaic of Willow and Alder woodland with areas of reedbeds and wet rush grassland.

Restoring peatlands helps lock up carbon, boost biodiversity, and build a more climate-resilient landscape for the future.
Huge thanks to @networkrail.bsky.social, the MERLIN project, @naturescot.bsky.social, & the Forth Rivers Trust & Forth Rivers Consulting for making this work possible.
Removal of invasive Sitka spruce has also been undertaken, to help the peatland recover naturally.
Pools are forming, water is lingering, and the site is beginning to function as a healthy bog once more: exactly what we want to see.
Water that once rushed through artificial drainage grips and carved gullies into local streams is being slowed & spread across the peat surface.
Gullies are being carefully reprofiled & revegetated, miles of grips are being zipped and wave-dammed & the ground is getting satisfyingly squelchy again!
Great news from the Knoxfauld Peatland Restoration Project! πΏ
Since 5th January, contractors Barker & Bland Ltd have been hard at work on site and weβre delighted to see conditions wetting up nicely. The transformation is well underway!

βοΈ Recent icy conditions across the Forth catchment mean our rivers are at their coldest, with fish conserving energy through winter. Cold, clean, oxygen-rich water helps wildlife thrive year-round. Magnus captured this shot from the River Teith yesterday. Howβs your local river looking? Share below!
In 2025 we worked with volunteers, communities & partners and monitored fish, restored habitats, tackled invasive species, & more - helping protect & improve rivers.
Huge thanks to everyone who made it possible, and best wishes for 2026 from FRT! ππ³π
