Collectively, mapping the landscape of autosomal mCAs in populations of diverse ancestry illustrates similarities but also highlights important ancestry, geographic, and sex differences.

We also showed how mCAs impact blood transcriptomes, implicating stabilizing selection as a mechanism by which copy number gain mutations are tolerated in healthy blood.

We identified autosomal mCA hotspots that were ancestry- and sex-specific, mapped novel ancestry-specific germline variants associated with autosomal mCA prevalence, and estimated heritability rates to quantify the germline genetic contribution to autosomal mCA variance.

We profiled mCA, large chromosomal mosaic alterations in the blood of >60,000 participants European-descent and African cohorts, including a founding population cohort in Quebec, and individuals from within South, Central, West and East Africa.

Cell-extrinsic controls over neocortical neuron fate and diversity Cell-extrinsic cues are key for neocortical cell identity and diversity.

Ever wondered how robust cellular identity is to external perturbations? Here we disrupt cellular environmnent in vivo and in vitro, and find cell population specific sensitivities. Environment sculpts development yes, but not all cells are made of the same wood. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Music to my ears. This is brilliant. Either 90% of us can claim to be better musicians than Beethoven or… maybe just maybe polygenic scores aren’t perfect?

This ancient pathogen became deadlier when humans started wearing wool Ancient genomes reveal that a bacterial fever jumped from human-borne ticks to lice around the time wool textiles became common.

I never thought about wool as a possible route of infection.

To the women in science. To the allies in science. To the ones who lift each other up.

I spend my life in science, constantly trying to figure out where I fit in. At times, it feels like pushing against an invisible force-one that questions, doubts, resists. But through it all, I am never alone. 🧵

Our blood tests are interpreted by average reference values. That's missing a lot of rich information!
Each person has their own tightly regulated setpoints. One healthy person's complete blood count setpoint can be differentiated from 98% of other healthy adults.
