People a century ago knew exactly what car dependency would cost us in taxes, congestion, and lost public space. The auto lobby just threw enough money at politicians to make us forget we ever had a choice.

How chain restaurants lean into nostalgia Chain restaurants are familiar, comfortable and everywhere. The food is not out-of-this-world, so why do these restaurants stoke such big emotions in us?

Had to share @502eire.lol Chain Gang:)

Iowa City Made Its Buses Free. Traffic Cleared, and So Did the Air.

Wow, transit working in Iowa City, Iowa. Fare revenue is a small part of @ridetarc.bsky.social budget. If only there were the political will to something like this in Louisville.

We have a bit of a natural experiment here. Compare the tone, quantity and duration of Charlie Kirk coverage with that of the two Dem lawmakers gunned down in their homes in Minnesota 6 months ago. May be revealing.

A great thing about bike-friendly streets is that they enhance local transport resilience.

Tube down b/c of a strike? A great excuse to cycle.

Future proofing bike lanes is something I hope New York City learns. The Flushing Ave bike lane by the Navy Yard is woefully narrow, especially for a two-way lane. Given how long it takes to build things like it, the city needs to think ahead.

The Embankment cycleway (CS3) in London was purposefully built to be wider than was usual in order to future proof it.

Some said it would hardly be used.

Now there’s a decent case for widening it further.

Induced demand is real.

I’ll second this, very much of an era for state park lodges. Some of the cabins at state park are nice. Stayed there last year.

It’s a bit kitschy, but worth a visit. Manage expectations though, heh.

It would be amazing if the police would actually enforce these same/corresponding rules for drivers.

Brown County Indiana and/or Bloomington. Might be a bit biased as an IU person:) I've heard good things about French Lick, but haven't been recently.

Gee, what could go wrong?

Lowering the bar is not the answer (it’s pretty low already).

Developer David Nicklies files suit over Louisville-Jefferson County merger - Louisville Business First A new lawsuit aims to reshape the structure of local government in Kentucky's largest city.

Do you think he has any idea of the support for this inside the urban service district? Leaving aside the fact that urban residents are subsidizing suburbs, not the other way around.

My city would be a LOT better for people if decision-makers would just start doing the little things well and stop thinking big shiny expensive projects will fix anything.

My city would be a LOT better for people if decision-makers would just start making transportation policy for PEOPLE and stop making transportation policy for CARS.

After all, it's not the cars that are unhappy.
