Finally getting a chance to ride out, coffee break with the K1300R at Kleinmond.

Sunrise over breaking waves
An old sunrise over the waves at Kleinmond, sorting through old pictures.
Makes sense. Gear and a bike adds up quickly. Riding is an awesome hobby, that soon becomes a way of life.
Excellent goal, but I would suggest getting the bike now ๐ that is what I did 15 years ago. Turns out that riding is excellent exercise and kept me so busy that I barely noticed losing my 50 kilogram spare tyre over the following year. At least do a safety course now to make sure you want to ride.
The bikes had to wait outside while the garage got a bit of clean today. Getting ready to do the timing chain on the k100. Poor chain is rattling badly on start up with about 80k kilos on it.

Good album. I thought her voice worked very well with the material.
Taking a corner into the sun on the Banghoek pass, between Franschhoek and Stellenbosch
Riding on the Franschhoek pass into the morning sun
Some screen grabs from my Sunday ride footage. Testing the 3d printed chin mount with my Chinese Gopro clone. I think it is working well. We shall see how it lasts.
On the Banghoek and Franschhoek passes.

I found a design on Thingiverse, which is lucky because I suck at modeling. Tested it this weekend and it works great.
I have both, A K100RS in an RT suite and a K1300R. The 1300 is a lot harder to work on. But it is day and night to ride. 20+ years of development between them. Jaw dropping difference in power. I love them both and would not sell either.
I would add, ask about oil consumption. I have one that works perfectly and rides like a dream, but the bike likes to burn oil. Still within tolerance, but a bit more than I would like. There was also a factory fix for a bad ground. It makes the bike hard to start when hot. Had mine now for 7 years.
Out for a Sunday morning ride. The morning sun highlighting the K1300's lava orange nicely. Parked next to the Theewaterskloof dam, near one of the nicest riding passes in the Cape peninsula, the Franschhoek Pass.

Hope all goes well.
Finally have the printer dialed in well enough to leave it unattended for longer prints. Just mounted this nice #motorcyle helmet hook. #3dprinting design from www.printables.com/model/61034-...

A troop of baboons on the road seen from a motorcycle rider's perspective
Suddenly baboons, another reason for moderate speeds on mountain passes. This bunch just raided a picnic area next to the road.

Orange bikes for the win.
No ride is complete with only one stop for coffee. Second stop of the morning, Bains kloof pass, Western Cape, South Africa.
The road was resurfaced last year and it's amazing to ride.

Time for the first coffee of the morning, stopped on Du Toits kloof pass, in the Western Cape, South Africa
A stunning morning gor riding.

I destroyed my phone's camera over a 2000km road trip. It made it all the way through the trip, but broke shortly afterwards. That was with a cheap ball mount. I would recommend investigating dampened mounts to protect the phone from vibration.
I have a soft spot for a bike that makes the engine its centre piece, no frills, no fairings, just an engine and a frame. That machine looks menacing and amazing at the same time. Great bike. The sheer presence of the wind and the world, when you find a quiet road and open up is unsurpassed.
Mine is a 2010. It was love at first sight ๐
2nd stop of the new year. The bike looking great in the early morning sun
Looking at over Hout bay. Calm seas, perfect weather.

First ride of the new year. Looking out towards Camp's bay, with Lions head in the background.

This side we are in early summer. With summer holidays starting for the kids. Easiest commuting in the year for Cape Town. Almost no traffic. Work has been keeping me from riding for pleasure. Looking forward to getting out tomorrow. Are you commuting through snow? Something we don't get this side.
Hoping for Sunday this side. Rain predicted, but that will just make things more interesting. ๐
Time for a coffee. Taking a break on the Franshoek pass with my BMW K100 a while ago.

I have been posting mostly pics including the K1300R, but I think this old guy deserves the odd picture too. 83 K100 started life as an RS currently wearing RT fairings. Near Bain's kloof pass. Newly surfaced last year, a dream to ride.
An epic spot to stop for the view.
On a winter's morning near Simonstown. Reflections in the early morning sun. If you time it right you will see no one else. Just you, your bike and the road.

It is one of the best riding roads around Cape Town. Especially at dawn, before it gets busy.
