He needs to stop messing with my home town. God willing, I could live 20 more years and I don't want to spend it looking at physical evidence of his egomaniacal delusions.
Seven smiling trans folk of varying genders and ethnicities hold out their arms joyfully to the viewer, with a pastel rainbow flag in the background.

Look, 47, these are not your navy ships. They are commercial vessels and their crews didn't sign up for this. Get real.
One of my favorite types of music: where the musicians talk about the experience of being musicians. Homeward Bound by Simon and Garfunkel. Faithfully & Send Her My Love by Journey. Misbehavin' by Pentatonix. Turn the Page by Bob Seger. Running on Empty (album) by Jackson Browne. What else?
This one hits hard.

WOW! ๐Philly DA Larry Krasner:
โThis is a small bunch of wannabe Nazis in a country of 350 million. We outnumber them. If we have to hunt you down the way they hunted down Nazis for decades, we will. We will find you. We will achieve justice.โ

โBeating people up in little roomsโฆhe knew where that led. And if you did it for a good reason, youโd do it for a bad one. You couldnโt say โWeโre the good guysโ and do bad-guy things.โ
All I needed to type into Google was Springsteen Streets of Minneapolis. I found posts from NPR, Fox News (!), Pitchfork, CBS, NYT etc. on the first page of results. How were you trying to find it?
Springsteen releases new song: "Streets of Minneapolis":
Oh our Minneapolis, I hear your voice
Singing through the bloody mist
Weโll take our stand for this land
And the stranger in our midst...
Weโll remember the names of those who died
On the streets of Minneapolis
Total victory on this issue; members of Congress will again have the right to conduct surprise inspections of ICE detention centers.
THIS is what makes my head spin: The president is not a moral figure in any idiom, any land, any culture, any subculture. I'm not talking about the liberal enlightenment that would make him want the country to take care of the poor and sick. I mean he has no Republican values either. He has no honor among thieves, no cosa nostra loyalty, no Southern code against cheating or lying, none of the openness of New York, rectitude of Boston, expressiveness and kindness of California, no evangelical family values, no Protestant work ethic. No Catholic moral seriousness, no sense of contrition or gratitude. No Jewish moral and intellectual precision, sense of history. He doesn't care about the life of the mind OR the life of the senses. He is not mandarin, not committed to inquiry or justice, not hospitable. He is not proper. He is not a bon vivant who loves to eat, drink, laugh. There's nothing he would die for - not American values, obviously, but not the land of Russia or his wife or young
son. He has some hollow success creeds from Norman Vincent Peale, but Peale was obsessed with fair-dealing and a Presbyterian pastor; Trump has no fairness or piety. He's not sentimental; no affection for dogs or babies. No love for mothers, "the common man"" veterans. He has no sense of military valor, and is openly a coward about war. He would have sorely lacked the pagan beauty and capacity to fight required in ancient Greece. He doesn't care about his wife or wives; he is a philanderer but he's not a romantic hero with great love for women and sex. He commands loyalty and labor from his children not because he loves them, even; he seems almost to hate them โ and if one of them slipped it would be terrifying. He does no philanthropy. He doesn't - in a more secular key - even seem to have a sense of his enlightened self-interest enough to shake Angela Merkel's hand. Doesn't even affect a love for the arts, like most rich New Yorkers. He doesn't live and die by aesthetics and health practices like some fascists; he's
very ugly and barely mammalian. Am I missing an obscure moral system to which he so much as nods? Also are there other people, living or dead, like him?
Virginia Heffernan wrote this shortly after the 2016 election and it still holds true
A heroic moment in this anti-semitic tragedy.
The hero here is a 43 yo Lebanese immigrant and fruit stand owner named
Ahmed Al Ahmed who was shot twice in the arm (apparently bt the other gunman) after wrestling the gun away.
He will be fine according to a relative.

So we have two immigrant heroes. One in Australia who helped disarm one of the shooters and one in the US who helped track down the Brown U shooter. When a man stabbed several people in the UK, it was also an immigrant who disarmed him.
Weird that the Far Right keeps vilifying immigrants.
Leave this Maryland man alone. Let him go home to be with his family.
The photo here is from our home, where our family received death threats every night of Chanukah in 2022. In Canada.
11 people in Australia were killed today by gunmen while they celebrated the first night of Chanukah at Sydneyโs Bondi Beach. Targeted because they were Jews.
As Jewish families around the world, we place our menorahs in our windows. Our message to the world: Light will outlive the darkness.
It does mine too. I'm appalled. ๐ก๐ฎโ๐จ๐ฅ

I so totally misread this when I first saw it. Forgive me please, I was blinded by hope and skimmed it too fast. This rots, that the hometown of 3 of the 5 members of Pentatonix would do this.
