Whether or not that’s just Durov‘s hybris - the old cat and mouse game is on again. Let’s see if 10yrs later an authoritarian government has the means to shut down Telegram. Potentially important case study for many countries to come.

A very interesting summary and contextualization! I definitely feel the last sentence:
„I’m just not sure what we’re supposed to do with that knowledge.“
What a fantastic resource!
Emiliano Treré, describing the physical setting in which his ethnography of a student movement's information took place, sounds outright romantic!

Important work, excellently presented by @gongbaobao.bsky.social (with Barbara Pfetsch) from the @weizenbauminstitut.bsky.social, on legacy media criticism by right-wing media in 🇩🇪.

Day 2 of #IJPP2025:
Started with a panel featuring yours truly, wherein I presented work together with Annett Heft, Juni Schindler, & @buehling.bsky.social on far-right and legacy media's coverage of conspiracy theories.
Re-reading Chadwick's classic work on "The Hybrid Media System" feels wild, when it shows pre-TikTok/Reels media consumption:
"By 2011 [...] Americans were watching video on a mobile phone for an average of four hours per month. These figures may be small [...] but they are still significant"

The times are dire, but some online platforms still seem to deplatform right-wing extremists. The head of the Austrian far-right „Identitarian Movement“ Martin Sellner reports to be cut off of his crypto monetization channels.
