El Paso received $5.2 million to mitigate opioid risks, with more funds to come. Most of that money sits unspent Texas began distributing opioid abatement funds from a national settlement agreement with pharmaceutical companies that drove the opioid crisis.

Great reporting by @priscillatotiya.bsky.social @elpasomatters.bsky.social on how the county, city, and local hospital are using their opioid settlement funds... including $411k spent on demolishing an old strip club building elpasomatters.org/2025/12/01/e...

U.S. declares military zone around El Paso, allowing soldiers to arrest migrants It’s the second military zone the Trump administration has created at the border, following one on the New Mexico-Mexico border, where a group of migrants were arrested on Monday.

The Pentagon has created a second military zone in the El Paso area that U.S. soldiers will patrol as part of the Trump administration’s efforts to crack down on people crossing the southern border illegally, even as crossings are at a historic low.

I got the chance to listen to multiple generations of Palestinians in El Paso share their family history, starting with expulsion from Palestine to building lives as a "minority among minorities" in the U.S.-Mexico borderlands.

This outbreak has also spread in Chihuahua, Mexico (a lot of Mennonites from this state resettled in TX where the epicenter of the outbreak is). There's at least one measles case now reported in Juarez, just on the other side of El Paso, Texas.

‘He’s here with me:’ Walmart shooting survivor honors late father at quinceañera Guillermo “Memo” García was the last person to die from the Aug. 3, 2019, Walmart mass shooting. His daughter paid tribute to him at her quinceañera, dancing to “Préstame a Mi Padre.”

I still keep in touch with a survivor of the hate crime, who lost her husband in the El Paso mass shooting. While she feels some conflict about the death penalty as a mother trying to protect her children, she ultimately feels let down & hurt by the justice system.

Valley fever, endemic to the Southwest, claimed this El Paso mother’s life. Experts say lack of awareness leads to misdiagnosis and missed chances to treat infections.

I can't with all these smug, short-term memory Gregg riders. The USMNT bar is so low that beating a weak Mexico and some CONCACAF teams has stagnated as the ceiling for success.

Poch took a big L this Nations League, but for ffs the US is not sniffing a World Cup final with GGG either.

El Paso kindergarteners last school year were just above 95% measles vaccination rate the CDC says is needed for herd immunity in a community.

The rate is higher than larger Texas counties, which lag major border counties.
