i think that who you're talking about sucks, but just because someone works with him, does not make them guilty by association.
this kind of attitude is pervasive throughout fandoms and is a huge reason i do not associate with any fandoms. it's toxic behavior.
To be charitable, we don't always know the people we work with, and want to think the best of them until they give us a reason to change our minds. It's pretty much universal in this field to regret working with specific individuals after the fact; I'm new to this and I've already been there.

Whether we like or not, Pixel gets a cut of the money from Cave Story+ and he’s made that perfectly clear. So someone’s mileage may vary.

I think the rumour came about cause it happened with another developer, so they assumed the same with Cave Story. AFAIK, this isn’t the case.
