Two small announcements:

One, I was locked out of my personal email account for a while, but I'm back in! If you tried to contact me there, I'll get back to you this week.

Two, I'm very pregnant, and it sure is an odd time for that. Excited for mat leave soon, at least.

One of the big media failures of the past decade is the ongoing search for the deeper side of Trump. There isn't one. His ideology, such as it is, is personalist, transactional, and zero-sum. That's as vain, vulgar, and wrong as you can get. He likes gold shit and applause. There's nothing beneath.

Walz: "What's happening in MN defies belief. News reports simply don't do justice to the level of chaos & disruption & trauma the federal govt is raining down... This long ago stopped being a matter of immigration enforcement. Instead, it's a campaign of organized brutality against the people of MN"

This whole document reads like AI and is farcical. "We want to maintain the United States’ unrivaled 'soft power'" followed by "The days of the United States propping up the entire world order like Atlas are over." So which is it?

"We reject the disastrous “climate change” and “Net
Zero” ideologies that have so greatly harmed Europe, threaten the United States, and subsidize our adversaries." - one of the many absolute nonsense statements in the US' 2025 National Security Strategy. www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/u...

We must now start calling this what it is: Trump’s Invasion. It started with federal agents, it will soon include deploying federalized members of the Illinois National Guard against our wishes, and it will now involve sending in another state’s military troops.

[Research Workshop] Responding to Eco-Anxiety and Climate Trauma: First Steps for Human Rights Researchers and Educators Eco-anxiety is a growing challenge facing professionals working on climate-related issues, including researchers and educators. The mental health impacts of the climate crisis are widely recognised and have been documented by numerous scholarly studies. For students and young people in particular, anxiety related to the climate crisis is likely to increase following the political victories of anti-climate actors, the withdrawal of the USA from the Paris Agreement, and the fact that the 1.5°C warming limit has already been exceeded. This will only be exacerbated as the impacts of the climate crisis – including wildfires, droughts and extreme weather events – become increasingly part of our lived experiences and our news media.

🌍 Workshop: Responding to Eco-Anxiety and Climate Trauma

The emotional impact of the climate crisis is increasingly felt in human rights research and education. Explore eco-anxiety and coping strategies.

I don't think we'll ever get another sentence which sums up everything the New York Times embodies quite like "Some legal experts have called it a crime to summarily kill civilians".

WHO rejects Trump’s claims of link between Tylenol and autism Body says research has found ‘no consistent association’ and urges pregnant women to follow doctors’ advice The World Health Organization (WHO) is pushing back against contested claims by the Trump administration that acetaminophen use during pregnancy heightens the risk of autism, further underscoring that no scientific consensus supports such a connection. “Extensive research, including large-scale studies over the past decade, has found no consistent association,” the agency said in a Wednesday statement. ALEX DE WAAL: So, let me say that I've been working on this field of famine, food crisis and humanitarian action for more than 40 years, and there is no case, over those four decades, of such minutely engineered, closely monitored, precisely designed mass starvation of a population as is happening in Gaza today.

Few if any experts know more about the deliberate use of starvation as a war crime than Alex de Waal. If he says it's happening, it's so.
