The Pregler Lab in the USGS New Mexico Cooperative Research Unit and the Department of Fish, Wildlife, & Conservation Ecology invite applications for a MS assistantship beginning fall 2024. This position will focus on conservation genomics of Pecos pupfish populations in New Mexico. The student will investigate (1) population structure, (2) evidence of selection/local adaptation, & (3) potential admixture with sheepshead minnow. Results will help guide future translocation efforts and inform a genetic monitoring plan for Pecos pupfish. Benefits include $26,252 annual salary, tuition waiver, health insurance reimbursement, and funding for travel to conferences and workshop training. Applications are due December 15th 2023. Bolson tortoise release at Armendaris Ranch last week. These tortoises are part of an experimental population to reintroduce this endangered species to New Mexico. My colleague Abby Lawson’s graduate student, Heather Zimba, is tracking movement & survival of these animals. 🐢🌎
