Finally got around to making the output register for the WCPU-1. So much easier to read this than a bunch of LEDs!

I may have succumbed to a little bit of scope creep before calling the architecture “done”. Bonus points if you can figure out what I’m adding haha

Will Warren The blog of an engineer from Canada

Comments are back live on my website again after a many year hiatus! Find a post and leave me a comment :) willwarren.com

I’ve also converted/imported all the old comments from disqus (~200) into the new system!

I removed Disqus from my website a few years ago due to their practices (ads, mainly). I’ve finally gotten around to working on re-enabling comments on the site with a whole new system of my own creation.

It’s free to run, works on static sites, has all the features I want. Open sourcing very soon!

This is all it took to get subtraction working (lol). Can you tell I ran out of wires and resorted to some truly cursed creations? Also yes that is the Flags register just sort of hanging there resting on the wire nest.

I have birthed AGI, a superintelligence capable of …. counting veeeeery slowly to 255. It will run a lot faster once I get some more parts in the mail I swear. Then it’s only a matter of time until the singularity.

Executing random garbage from RAM leads to some fun patterns! Next just need to actually program something useful into it! And then probably hours of troubleshooting haha :(

This is really bad. I hope Adafruit can figure out how to operate in this garbage environment

Deciding to start up Fusion360 is a serious time commitment. Also once it’s open, deciding to close it means you are really, definitely, 100% sure that you’re done

I use my phone a lot, and I use my laptop a lot. My iPad does nothing ever and basically sits on the shelf with a run down battery all the time. Maybe it’s not for me? Or maybe I’m using it wrong…

My 8-Bit Adder demonstrator thing looks great but the DIP switches are baaaackwarrrrrdddssssss (LSB on the left).

Not a fatal flaw but the input is backwards from the output. Not great for a demonstrator…so I think I might just redo it 😭

Careless mistakes cost money!

I'm doing the thing that many nerds eventually do and building my own computer from the ground up with logic gates 😅.

Check out the first rambling post about WCPU-1 here: willwarren.com/2025/04/29/b...
