Take your cues (*cough steal) methods and ideas from others. There are a lot of ways to vendor : glom on to ones that feel natural to you.
People (some/a lot?) buy based on their buy-in with the artist. Your enthusiasm and authenticity are key to a connection.

Label. Lack of a label will discourage some. And know that some people are still going to ask - either they didn't see it (it happens) or they are looking for a soft opening to ask about the item itself.

A soft neither here. Both working on something or strong eye contact can discourage people. It's okay to be talking with a neighbor or on your phone but if someone comes close, stop, stand and gently engage.

Either work, but be neat. I think of it as a form of being respectful of the person's presence.
A touch of cosplay also goes a long way as an icebreaker.
