An excerpt from a piece I (Glen Wilson) wrote for WSC in 2020 about attending the first football match with attending fans during the Covid-19 pandemic. The excerpt reads ‘After months of football played toacanned chant soundtrack it's refreshing to hear a live crowd reacting naturally. Football fans aren't generic; that's the joy in them. For all the advancements of audio technology, no sound engineer in the world would think to inject a high-pitched "Fucking get hold of the fucking ball!" five minutes in. Yet a home fan beneath me does so effort-lessly, like he's never been away.’
