Finished the Elf for the HeroQuest board game. Probably some stuff I could still do like edge highlight the cobblestones, but I’m happy to end it here. Threw in some fluorescents for the potions!

It’s like that figure stepped right out of Middle Earth, in full ceremonial armor that could take some serious damage if actually needed in combat!

Holy smokes, that reads totally metallic! I hope “not thrilled” means not accomplishing what you were seeking, because it looks seriously awesome!

And I’ve felt that way myself at times, so I get it.

So this one was for personal enjoyment or was it a commission…or both? Looks great regardless, though I certainly understand the drive to try and perfect new stuff!

And by the way, this Zombie was my first attempt at the comic cel style, with your style in mind too. I gave myself three tones for each color and that was it. Next may have to be two tones!

I’m finally letting go of rigidly practicing something and letting myself occasionally fall into the zone to figure out what I like. It’s so great how there are so many aspect to learning, growing, and enjoying this hobby!

It’s funny…I should do the same now. I intentionally used B&W because I needed practice mixing…even B&W. Now that I’m finally mastering some basic skills — like color matching, mixing colors, thinning paints, etc… 1/2

Your high contrast style is so eye catching…for you to be proud of a figure and having had a load of fun with it means I’m very much eagerly waiting to see it….

Many thanks! Believe it or not, all I did was refine the black and white sketch and then paint a thin glaze of phthalo green over it. It might seem weird, but I kind of enjoy the relaxation of painting in black and white and then glazing color on top of it.

I’ve partially painted The Elf for the Hero Quest board game. The feathered cloak and other feathered adornments are done. Still must smooth out the skin, armor, and all the rest.

Curious to see the result. I find going with darker or desaturated reds lets me keep red or reddish orange highlights, so the whole thing still reads red. I haven’t experimented too much with it (I like the look of it) and so I’m especially curious how yours turns out! 🎉
