1775. An editor comes into work on Christmas eve to find a manuscript on his desk. The title: A HISTORY OF PYRATES by Charles Johnson. (We have no budget so we’ll say the editor is played by Michael Stuhlbarg).

Would men need to provide a marriage certificate to vote? No? Just women? Got it.

Most Americans want to read more books. We just don't. When we worry about the declining rates of literacy and a lack of reading skills, it's often about children. But how often are adults reading these days? And what are we reading? A new NPR/Ipsos poll ...

Clem Burke "Dreaming" Isolated Drums YouTube video by Isolated Drumming

RIP Clem Burke, a magnificent rock (and disco) drummer. The isolated drums of "Dreaming," which are essentially non-stop fills for the entire track--genius. www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Xse...

A little while ago, my parents' cat Bridget went missing. As the weeks dragged on, they became extremely worried. My dad devised a way to distract himself: he began to paint Bridget's adventures, imagining her travelling through time and popping up in some of art and music's most iconic scenes.

And now they're dismantling the department of education! Why is no one in Congress stopping this?! They are destroying our country and our children's future.

The administration is removing phone support for Soc Security recipients. Making it more difficult for seniors to get their checks. It’s a back door way to cut SS benefits. Horrific.

If you know anyone who is impacted, please help them get online to get their benefits approved

Wired is dropping paywalls for FOIA-based reporting. Others should follow As the administration does its best to hide public records from the public, Wired magazine is stepping up to help stem the secrecy

Public records should be public! WIRED is going to lift the paywall on articles based on public records obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, in partnership with @freedom.press, to make this reporting free to access for anyone.

proud as always to work at @wired.com!

I found a ‘dead’ person collecting Social Security in Seattle “Dead” Ned Johnson turns out to be very much alive. It took him weeks to convince the system he was breathing and to start clawing his benefits back.

The richest man in the world took over $5K out of this guy's bank account, claiming he was dead. The richest man in the world said he was saving money.

He was not dead.

Can’t emphasize this enough: if you’re feeling overwhelmed by the debased assault on our country, the antidote is connecting with other people in the flesh who are feeling the same way. There are millions of us.
