Online abuse of politicians is a profitable business Senator Eileen Flynn's comments on far-right use of the tricolour have made her a lightning rod for online abuse — because viral hatred is highly profitable

Really need to remember to share a link to the piece

Thyme Travellers 2 An anthology of Palestinian Speculative Fiction

Friends, could you help me share this Kickstarter? It’s doing well but I need to extend its reach: www.kickstarter.com/projects/158...

I don’t live in Dublin anymore but it makes me happy to know that it’s still on the go.

I totally condemn the behaviour of the fuel protesters but as someone who’s taken part in other protests I’ve seen how easily the Gards can get heavy-handed so I’d be nervous of giving them more powers; I’d say they currently have enough to investigate + pursue these crimes thru the justice system

The Silent Epidemic of Femicide in the United States Every day, nearly 3 women are killed by an intimate partner — making the United States one of the deadliest countries for women and girls.

You’d think so but I found this report on USA which said; “
compared to male homicides, femicides tend to be more violent and intimate in nature — women are less likely than men to be killed in a shooting, but more likely to be beaten, stabbed, or strangled”

Yr piece helped tease out my mixed feelings about the protests; coming from a Green/left/protest background I’m usually in favour, but there were some v different/negative elements to this one. My partner & daughter went by O’Connell St for a 1st hand view and quickly left; bad vibes & tricolours.

“Ireland uses almost 150,000 barrels of oil per day. It’s estimated that, at its peak, Barryroe cd produce about 20,000 barrels per day – about 13% of the country’s oil demand.

And this is the best case scenario from the best potential project from almost 50 years of exploration in Irish waters.“

So nice to have a politician to be proud of. They’re few and far between

It was South Africa, not the US, but yes, the ubiquitousness of guns is madness.
Not that men need guns to kill their ex/partners; happens in Ireland too where there are far fewer guns - they use their bare hands or knives or blunt instruments. The commonality is violent, entitled, men.

Man attacked US military airplane with hatchet at Shannon Airport this morning The man climbed onto the wing of the US military airplane which was parked on a remote taxiway at the airport.

A real hatchet job

Risk managing the State, while hoping for casual miracles We take for granted what for most of human history would be regarded as a miracle.

This piece, over 10 years old, by systemic risk expert David Korowicz (in the Indo of all papers!) is pretty relevant to the current fuel blockade in Irl.
"One week seems to be the max. tolerance of a just-in-time economy," reported think-tank, Chatham Hse

Has your car broken down

That link doesn’t seem to work. Is it towtruck.ie?

Yep. If this was climate or Palestine protestors they’d be dragged off and arrested. I guess the cops have been told to let them do what they want - a different power dynamic going on

It would appear that Israel is doing its best to ensure a ceasefire doesn’t happen. No surprise; they’re a regime with zero morals/conscience - if there was any justice they wd end up in The Hague, but w the US supporting and enabling them it won’t happen.

I appreciate their plight & their right to protest but blocking emergency access was a bad move and not exactly endearing them to the public. Imagine if was climate/Palestine protestors causing that chaos? The Public Order Unit wd be in with batons and arresting them all. Diff rules for diff groups.

Yes; Americans wd lose their minds if was another country (espec. MoslemđŸ˜±). US policy is about pillaging resources & while Israel has been aligned, it’s doing solo runs & its megalomania has US in an insane war with terrible consequences. Will US keep rolling over or ditch ‘em? Hard to imagine but

List of politicians funded by AIPAC - Wikipedia

AIPAC spends millions on campaigns against American political candidates who don’t toe à pro-Israeli line (eg against Kat Abugazeleh in recent Illinois election). This is obvs to buy control of govt and is one of the big factors in US support for genocidal Israel. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...

And you think Israel doesnt control the US?? AIPAC wd beg to differ.
Plus, the twisted reason given for starting this war was that Israel was planning to attack Iran, which would obviously retaliate, so the US had to strike before Iran cd. That sounds pretty much like control to me.

I will queue for however long it takes in order not use self-service checkouts when there’s a human being there - earning a living from doing the job that supermarket executives have decided customers shd do for free.

Ok, I’ll assume best of intentions + imagine yr “bent out of shape” comment wasn’t meant to sound as rude/patronising as it did. There are obv differences in Parisian + Quebec French but neither is better than the other as GormSky seemed to indicate. (His reply to me didn’t challenge my assumption.)

Activist Solidarity Fund We are a team of experienced Irish activists dedicated to social justice, and Ireland's neutrality. This Fund supports and is supported by many grassroots solidarity groups organising across the count...

If you have a few quid to spare; a much needed fund to help brave people who are involved in actions to stop the mis-use of Shannon airport by US military. It costs money to stand up to the state - on top of the danger of police brutality, court cases + risk of prison.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re Irish or Canadian, yr post came across as implying that QuĂ©bĂ©cois is not French - which is pretty insulting.

Hard to see positives coming out of the attacks in the Middle East but one may be that it stops the spread of the cancer that is data centres. Our govt has sold us out, once again, and it’s going to take something huge to make them change course. Maybe no more access to oil or gas imports will do it

Awh, thanks Emma. Great that you can join in MG. (Am still living the Long Covid nightmare.) Lelia is such an impressive person and though I don’t have any hope MichĂ©al Martin will actually do anything, it shows him and the govt up for their cowardly stance.
