Why teach (and learn) about evolution? | National Center for Science Education Why teach evolution? A school administrator might answer simply that the district teaches evolution because it a required part of the science curriculum. Evolution is in the standards and a school would be derelict in its educational duty if its textbooks and curriculum failed to include it.

As we count down to #DarwinDay, we're re-visiting some great pieces on why we teach evolution! "Let us also ask the question from a student’s point of view: Why learn evolution?" https://ncse.ngo/why-teach-and-learn-about-evolution

🐙 Talk about a hands-off romance!

Male octopuses have a specialized arm called a hectocotylus, which they use for reproduction. Some species even detach the arm entirely and leave it with the female until she’s ready to fertilize her eggs.

How NASA satellites help researchers better understand Northwest river temperatures Using satellite remote sensing to measure water temperature has been heavily underutilized, said a professor at the University of Washington.

The University of Washington has developed the Thermal History of Regulated Rivers, or THORR, a website that uses artificial intelligence to interpret all that temperature data from NASA’s Landsat satellites, dating back decades.

Testing the meshing hypothesis in prospective teachers: Are there effects of matching learning style and presentation mode on learning performance and on metacognitive aspects of learning? - Instructional Science Learning styles are a popular concept in the educational field, although there is no empirical evidence that matching learning materials to an individual’s learning style actually enhances learning…

"In sum, the study provides further evidence that considering learning style in teaching methods such as presentation mode is not beneficial. Importantly, the present study used ecologically valid learning materials and a sufficiently powered sample." #AcademicSky #EduSky
