"We wanted anyone, seeing lightning from a cloud above the cannons, to remember the old proverb: "Artillery is the god of war", Pavlo Martseniuk later wrote.

The idea for the badge and its first drawings appeared in 2016. They belonged to a soldier of the 55th Independent Artillery Brigade, Pavlo Martseniuk, and his daughter Sofia.

One of the characteristic symbols of Ukrainian artillerymen is a red beret with a badge that combines crossed cannon barrels and a stylized cloud from which lightning strikes.
