Lastly, although I’m not sure how this would work, teams that have a higher point percentage after being eliminated from the playoffs should get a higher draft pick. All of these things could reduce the urge to tank. I would be ashamed of the Jets if I thought they were doing so deliberately.

First, no more draft lottery. The #1 pick goes to the team with the best winning percentage that misses the playoffs.
Second, a team that gets the #1 pick in one season cannot get the #1 pick the following season, no matter where they finish. I’m looking at you, Edmonton.

I’ve always thought that tanking to get a high draft pick is disgusting, and teams that do so should be penalized. The question is…how? I have a couple of ideas

This is the equivalent to not letting your partner move back in just because they’re now sober, but rather, making them go through rehab and counselling as well. Electing Biden in 2020 wasn’t enough, because Trump remained free, and was allowed to run again.

Constitutional amendment prohibiting convicted felons from being President;
Mandatory, full disclosure of tax returns before being allowed to run for President;
Full physical and mental evaluation before running for President;
Passing a basic civics test before being allowed to run.
That’s a start.

To be clear:
Reversal of Citizens United; personal or (especially) corporate political donations outlawed, or reduced to four figure at most;
Complete overhaul of Supreme Court, including impeachments and, when appropriate, jail sentences;

This will only be true if America puts in place a legal and constitutional structure that makes it absolutely impossible for this to ever happen again. I see no indication from either party that this is an idea they’re willing to entertain. So…no.
