On the latest Proudly Out of Line episode, Mardi Moore (she) sits down with Simon Kent Fung (he), who advised Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser's team on the case. Simon is a conversion therapy survivor himself and the creator of Dear Alana.

This week, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Chiles v. Salazar AGAINST Colorado's conversion therapy ban being applied to talk therapy with a licensed counselor.

Talk therapy is treatment and should be held to professional standards to do no harm to patients. Conversion therapy does harm, this is clear.

"The Constitution does not pose a barrier to reasonable regulation of harmful medical treatments just because substandard care comes via speech instead of scalpel."

Thank you to Justice Jackson for being the one voice of reason in her dissent from the ruling released today against Colorado’s conversion therapy ban.

The state’s laws are not changed immediately, but are under threat. This decision doesn’t change the facts. Conversion therapy is still harmful. It is still linked to depression, anxiety, and suicide. It is still medical malpractice. The Court did not rule it safe or effective because it isn't.

There's still more road ahead for both bills, but this is a solid step in the right direction for LGBTQ+ Coloradans. Next, both will be voted on by the full House.

SB26-018, led by Bread and Roses Legal Center, would automatically suppress court records for minors filing name change petitions/ HB26-1322, led by One Colorado, strengthens protections against conversion practices by licensed mental health professionals.

Good news out of the Colorado State Legislature yesterday: Two pro-LGBTQ+ bills, SB26-018 and HB26-1322, passed out of the House Judiciary Committee and are moving forward in the legislative process.

It’s time to get informed and get to work. Voters will soon be asked to weigh in on four policies targeting trans youth, women, and immigrants. We have two meetings where we'll share what's actually in these measures and what's at stake.

Colorado voters to weigh ban on transgender students playing on teams aligned with their gender identities Protect Kids Colorado, the advocacy group backing the initiative, submitted nearly 169,000 signatures to petition the measure onto the ballot.
