I went on a strange safari today and didn’t see a single animal. The tour guide gave an odd speech and I couldn’t make sense of it. Can you?

“What links the mammals on this tour? They’re all hidden! They can’t be seen - but listen and we’ll hear them.
“It’s a bare bones tour but some of the things we’ll hear will make your hair stand on end.
“I could talk about it until I’m hoarse, but people don’t want to listen to me wail on. I’ll shut up and eat this delicious mousse. Keep an ear out for those mammals.”

Which animals are present on this unusual wildlife walk? Solve the puzzle to find out, and comment if you get it!

I pluralised the prompt word for today’s puzzle, but it still totally counts, right?

This one might work for a future #dndpuzzle so I’ll have to store it up

This puzzle contains a graphical element which is not solvable in alt text.

Cinderella wrinkled her nose at the trainee Godmother. ‘You’re goingto turn that rat into something? It’s all squashed. It barely even looks like a rat.’
‘Yes, well, it’s the best I could do in the time,’said the Godmother. ‘Using my wand, I can turnit into something useful.’
‘I’ve seen a mouse turned into a horse,’ said Cinderella. ‘But what can you make from that rat?’
RAT
‘Oh!’ said Cinderella. ‘That’s actually pretty useful after all.’

This apartment is a trap!
The pansies snap at you
The antenna fires out a net
The olives are plotting evil
The parsnips are full of pins
The strawberries give you warts
And you’ll never guess what’s lurking in the custard
...or will you?

EnigMarch day 5: Trap

A short puzzle for the #enigmarch puzzle-a-day challenge.

I enjoy including short, fun puzzles in my D&D games, so this is a fun challenge. And I don’t even have to avoid real-world months, people and technology!

‘Off with their heads!’ cried the Queen of Hearts when she saw the three images below. But which character from the Alice in Wonderland stories is in danger next?

This puzzle is unfortunately not solvable with alt text due to a visual element. The puzzle reads: if you’re really psychic, you’ll know which of these symbols I’m thinking of. Icons follow of a sun, duck, apple and crown. The word Psychic is in an elaborate script which forms an ambigram with the word Royalist

EnigMarch day 3: Psychic

Another short puzzle for #enigmarch - a month-long puzzle creation challenge.

This one is simple when you figure out the trick. (And will be much easier on phones and tablets than with a desktop screen!)

I’m so excited about my everyone-has-amnesia one-shot adventure for D&D. Scratching off the scratchcard coating with the coin token is immensely satisfying. And it makes trying out your spells extra exciting!

If you want to play it at your own #dnd table, follow the project now on Kickstarter 💛

Five D&D character sheets with all the numbers covered with scratchcard coating lie on a table. Five coin tokens and some TTRPG dice are scattered over them.

Happy #selfpromotionsaturday to the #ttrpgcommunity ! I’ve made an Everyone-has-Amnesia short adventure for D&D where your character sheet has scratchcard coating over the stats.

Who the heck are you - and what are you good at? You’ll have to explore to find out. Kickstarting later this year!

Scratchcard character sheet prototypes ready for a D&D oneshot. All the PCs have amnesia, and they only find out what they’re good at when they try out a skill or fire off a spell. And they might just trigger a memory when they do so.

I’m hoping to hand out a bunch of these amnesia oneshot promo cards at #Dragonmeet on Saturday. If you get one, there’s a fun little puzzle on the back for you to use at your D&D (or other TTRPG) table

I’d highly recommend - it makes for an (ironically) v memorable game!

You can definitely make your own sheets by hand with some stickers and fiddly cutting out. This version will be for anyone who wants a plug and play option: sheets, satisfying adventure and memories to retrieve, all ready to go

Quantum Leap’s Dr Sam Beckett, played by Scott Bakula, says Oh Boy after leaping into a new persona

Quantum Leap’s Dr Sam Beckett, played by Scott Bakula, says Oh Boy after leaping into a new persona

Playing in a great DnD campaign feels like being a main character in a beloved long-running ensemble TV series

I was trying to work out what that makes the amnesia one-shot I’m currently crafting, and I reckon it would be… a classic episode of Quantum Leap. Oh boy

I’ll be there running an all-the-PCs-have-amnesia game in the morning. Can’t wait!

Nice nice. Love it when the DM weaves your backstory into the campaign and this sounds like the ultimate version of that

Do they get to see their stats & modifiers on the character sheets or do you only tell them after they roll? *cackles in DM*

This this this. I’m currently putting together a whole oneshot kit where all the character sheets are blocked out with scratchcard coating and the main idea is for players to figure out who they are. So much storytelling drama potential

Murder mystery can be done. I ran a Discworld themed murder mystery one shot for my table and it worked beautifully. It’s a *lot* of prep and I agree the system isn’t set up for it BUT it’s achievable! Make sure there are at least 2 versions of each clue and don’t hide them behind skill checks

The text ‘What if your character sheet looked like this?’ is overlaid on a photo of character sheets on a table. All the stats and spells are hidden by golden scratch card coating

You sit at the #D&D table. Your DM hands you a character sheet and… all the stats are hidden. You’re only allowed to scratch them off when you try out that skill or fire off that spell. Can you figure out who you are and regain your missing memory? A one shot adventure like no other

I’ve heard good things about Wild Sheep Chase (D&D) for first time DMs. Good luck!

I ran a D&D Discworld oneshot for my table a few years ago. They were Watch guards with a murder mystery to solve. We had checks to dodge custard pies at the fool’s guild, stealthing into the UU to gather clues, a covert werewolf to track down… worked really well in the setting
