Ghost's take

For parents of #adhd or #autistic or other cognitively disabled kids - get your kids a 504 or IEP. And then make sure people respect it.
There can be damage to a child's self-esteem by asking them to operate without needed supports and the child underperforms as a result, and the child can feel conflicted and confused when an authority figure, in the form of a teacher, suggests they not use supports they've been allotted.
Telling a child to try not using granted academic accomodations "as a challenge" when taking an exam is akin to telling a child not to use granted physical accomodations to run a race "as a challenge". Both, when taken away, may result in the actual accomplishment of the task but not as successfully
And don't you dare pressure a child to not use granted accomodations because the child is intelligent. Taking away accomodations is not "a challenge" it's against the law when there's a 504 or IEP in place.
It's not a fucking compliment to tell someone that they don't seem like they need accomodations.
Hello, the reason you think I'm as competent as I am is BECAUSE I use the accomodations I'm granted. I still NEED them to be this amazing.

How many responses have you gotten/are you hoping for?
I submitted, reposted (for whatever that's worth), and texted it to several friends and family (which IS working!)
I NEED HELP!
Please take this quick, meaningless 19 question survey so I can get data for my students to learn stats!
I did a similar version a few months ago but missed an important question type. Even if you did the old one, please do it again!
Please circulate widely!

I guess that's the point? N=1 doesn't prove anything other than that a thing was great for you.
And, a correction is not inherently negative. Don't read into it.
Blanket statements are not great.
Progesterone can be a nightmare for cis women. It also can be lifesaving. Seeing a good doctor who specializes in menopause is key.
I get that it's privilege to say we all have that freedom and that so many people can't actualize it.
I'm just very slowly starting to realize I'm "allowed to" opt out! That it's actually my choice to listen to my body and do what I need. The immense freedom in that - no wonder so many people are invested in ensuring most people do not understand that we ALL have that freedom to decide.
Wait, is your problem that "again" (should) be pronounced as "uh-gayn" rather than "uh-genn"?
Or is your problem that friend has a D on the end and again doesn't?
I got home WIPED OUT. I had to make dinner for my family. After, I had to lie down. I couldn't even move for almost an hour. I was so heavy.
Now I can't stop reading or listening to music or playing my phone game or scrolling social media & I am ELECTRIC with anxiety.
#autistic body adventures.
Bunnies in a raft pull up next to a spaceship capsule, which has just splashed down and is floating in the open sea. Visible in the capsule, two bunnies wave at the ones in the boat.

This is a very pretty one, to my eye.
Screenshot of a page from the book "Autistic Menopause: A Guide to the Menopausal Transition for Autistic People and those Supporting Them" by Julie Gamble-Turner and Rachel Moseley Text: Now, you might say that these physical symptoms aren't fun for anyone, and many non-autistic people will really suffer from them. That's true. However, we feel they have additional significance for autistic people, who often already have low self-esteem and greater vulnerability to depression and anxiety, and who can already find venturing out of the house a major challenge. Anything that heighten[s] the intensity of feeling different' is going to be unwelcome.12 Lily reminded us that many autistic people are already doing extra mental work to mask: '[talking to people] is like putting on a performance, it always is... and when you've got in your mind that somewhere in the middle of all this, you're going to go bright red and start gasping and sweating... you think it must stand out like a beacon. And people make jokes about it... it feeds on itself and your lack of confidence and all that kind of thing.'
I've been reading " #Autistic #Menopause: A Guide
to the Menopausal Transition
for Autistic People and those
Supporting Them" by Julie Gamble-Turner & Rachel Moseley, and I've had an insight about why I really, really hate people Noticing me that is tangential to the text in the screenshot. 🧵
I'm not sure this is linking to the same article you're referring to? The linked one is about asking questions =/= questioning authority
I’ll repeat it as many times as I have to
Self-identification is VALID
if you need the ICD-10 code to get something you need, then I hope you can access the eval you deserve
But if you don’t have use for the dx code please don’t waste your resources
You don’t need our permission to believe it.
Haven't experienced the first.
The second is a super variable experience depending on your provider but I find it generally more tolerable than a pap smear.
🚫 Don’t: “Everyone is a little autistic.”
✅ Do: “Autistic traits are not exclusive to Autistic people
and it’s the cumulative constellation of traits that they have
that fundamentally differs from the lived experiences of Non-Autistic people.”
(A bit wordy, but maybe the nuance is worth it.)
There was a faint puff of smoke from the bottle, and a small genie appeared.
"You have freed me," it said, "so I'm obliged to grant you a wish."
It hesitated. "But I am not very powerful."
I nodded. "Of all things I need, give me the greatest you can."
Suddenly, I held a large mug of hot cocoa.
Friends, take care of yourselves. We aren't meant to live with stress like we had today.
I am taking tomorrow off to rest and try to be ok.
"No," the swordmaster said.
"One does not refuse the king," the herald said.
"I do. I will not train his soldiers or officers, I will not tell my students to join his army, I will not support his unjust war."
"You will regret this!"
"No," the swordmaster said.
Hugs
Not ok either.
The outside world needs to STOP doing that.
Especially a certain political shithead.

Yeah, I am very tired of people informing me I'm an adult. I am well aware and I am a very responsible and capable person. Whatever I'm doing that you feel isn't adult-like is just fine, you can ignore it and go about your day, it's working for me, you don't have to like it.
