How often and how severe will future #droughts be? And how well can climate models simulate them?
Our new paper by Klara Middendorf together with colleagues from @gfz.bsky.social. We use #GRACE satellite #gravity data to evaluate drought events in climate model simulations.

#EGU25 Panel members of the great debate on how the global science community should respond to attacks on science
A big thank you to the courageous scientific leaders who dare to speak out their minds during the #EGU25 great Debate on the current attacks on science.
We are excited for this years Vening Meinesz Medal Lecture by René Forsberg and G Division Outstanding ECS Award Lecture by Matthias Schartner this evening in room K1 at 19:00. We are looking forward to seeing you there! #EGU25 #EGU25_G @egu.eu
If you are asking what kind of science we can afford, you've got it wrong. It's the other way round: What kind of ignorance & data gaps do we want to accept? Read how political intervention in the US jeopardises science & data by @susannebuiter.bsky.social 👇

Already thinking about what to do during the break? Grab a coffee and meet the Geodesy team at the EGU booth. #EGU25 #EGU25_G @egu.eu
A memorable evening at the #Geodesy Reception 2025 during the #EGU25.
Many thanks to everyone who joined us at #BEV in #Vienna for an inspiring night of networking, collaboration, and celebrating the geodesy community.

Thanks so much for organizing! It was great (again). 🙂

During today's #EGU25 plenary meeting the new @egu.eu division presidents were inaugurated. I am glad to hand over the Geodesy Division (@g.egu.eu) to Roelof Rietbroek (@drstrawpants.wobbly.earth) into the absolutely best of hands. 🙂 Roelof, have fun & good luck! This will be great!

An impressive number of volunteers contribute to making #EGU25 possible.
I can really recommend getting involved with @egu.eu, as it is not only (a little bit) of work, but also (a lot of) fun!!
#EGU25 is on its way with the first sessions starting tomorrow! Interested to know more about important events from #EGU25_G, then check out our blog post:
No way! No FOMO. Never…
(We will miss you so much!)
Thanks! It’s been actually really nice so far. Good luck with the constructions! 😕Hope to see you on Sunday.

Testing the #nightjet minicabin this year on the #train2egu. Cozy. 😍
I am looking forward to seeing many of you there!

The 3. #ICCC workshop on #Geodesy for #Climate Research has come to an end. Very happy about 250+ registered participants from almost 60 countries and 77% of presenters being early career scientists. #EDI
Thank you to all speakers, conveners, participants & the orga team!

Very interesting presentation by @franckghomsi.bsky.social on steric sea level variability in the Eastern Tropical Atlantic Ocean today at the #ICCC workshop on #Geodesy for #Climate Research.

In the last oral presentation of the afternoon session, Artur Lenczuk from Military Univ of Techn. Warsaw presents a mulitvariate drought severity index that includes #GNSS and #GRACE information highlighting the benefit of space #geodesy for analyzing hydrological extremes.
Another presentation on #GNSS for #hydrology by Motahareh Esfandyari-Kaloukan (Univ. of Isfahan) highlighting the benefit of using the Hilbert-Huang Transform in the processing of the GNSS time series. #ICCC
We stay with hydrological induced loading but move from the U.S. to South America: Micaela Carbonetti from the Instituto Geográfico Nacional Argentino is presenting their work on hydrological loading impact on SIRGAS-CON geodetic coordinates using PCA.

Another interesting presentation from the University of. Montana given by Zachary Young on creating a GPS-based drought index. #ICCC
How did atmospheric rivers increase water storage in the Western U.S. resulting in a (temporary?) relief from the past drought in California? Exciting story-telling by Hilary Martens from the Univ. of Montana at the #ICCC workshop. Check out the related EOS article: eos.org/articles/cal...

We continue our #ICCC workshop with the afternoon session and a presentation by Mengouna Xavier from University of Yaoundé I (Cameroon) on rain gauge observations and their applications.
Slide from Lone's presentation showing regional hydrological angular momentums in different river basins
Another presentation from @gfz.bsky.social given by Lone Stumpe on the El Nino impact on earth rotation showing that ENSO has a strong impact on interannual hydrological angular momentum variations, especially for the length-of-day component. #ICCC
We continue the #ICCC workshop with interferomatric radar and in-situ wells for studying groundwater extraction in Afghanistan. Presented by Najibullah Kakar from @gfz.bsky.social.
Time series of empirical noise for different GRACE and GRACE-FO gravity field solutions
Noise assessment of #GRACE-FO data presented by Uli Meyer from University of Bern. Very interesting.
Slide showing the evaluation of LISFLOOD and WGHM models against GRACE data on interannual time scales showig that LISFLOOD fits better to GRACE in most regions than WGHM.
Nice presentation at the #ICCC workshop by Laura Jensen from @gfz.bsky.social on comparing the high-resolution global hydrological model LISFLOOD against #GRACE.
