It’s a long drive here from my parents’ place in TN…going north through West Virginia then hooking a left.

If you men insist on making this a thing you WILL find yourself with a middle-aged-lady little spoon because we are fitting! people! on this train!!

New form of manspreading unlocked: holding onto the pole with arm fully outstretched so you take up maximum aisle space.

That was possibly the lowest I’ve ever seen it fly by

Literally two people in that car are talking to each other…

But also, what exactly else are they supposed to be doing? Salivating over him? People quietly entertaining themselves is generally my hoped-for train environment!

This is in Chicago and for the last couple of weeks our sidewalks have made more narrow than they already are by ice/snow. I’ve seen people with strollers have to lift them over ice piles to get past these. Get them off the sidewalk if they must exist at all.

During early COVID I felt journalists were doing more public health than a lot of the official public health institutions

Probably need to go visit my parents in TN over spring break—dad having health problems – but I had the same thought about not wanting to end up trapped on the wrong side.

(Our original spring break plans back I fall had, ironically enough, been to go to Minneapolis, but like for tourist reasons!)

Yep. All it’s doing is reminding me to unsubscribe from a bunch of retailer mailing lists that I had lazily been letting go to my promotions box instead (where every now and then when one did tempt me to buy). AI—great for business!

This somehow mashes up two significant parts of my high school experience and I love it.

How Did A Chicago Dog End Up With Rabies? PAWS Investigating After Alarming Discovery The now-euthanized dog was the first to test positive for rabies in Cook County since before 1964 and the first in Illinois since 1994, according to public health officials.

Plain savory steel-cut. A dollop of XO sauce is also awesome on top.

I usually skip it but last week (not a holiday day) was walking, on my phone, making a decision on the fly about what order to run a couple errands in on based on store closing times, so I just went with it. Turns out it couldn't even tell me what time the Uniqlo at the mall closed correctly. 🫠

I used this with my students this semester as their final project. Not all of them got the concept, but a lot of them did and it was a really helpful tool to explain the difference between a simple rebuttal (which is what they were all inclined to do) and actually changing the framing!

Was just thinking this last week taking the bus around Quebec City, my first time visiting. Even took it out to Wendake at night in freezing weather. But btw their excellent service/signage, real-time tracking app & map app it was no worries. Very different than 20 yrs ago even taking buses I knew

*on. “Of” would be a bad idea.

Otherwise, my grand plans include laundry and watching something good!

Cheat code cause I just get to step out of my balcony and see the fireworks. But I do have an alarm set for 11:45 because of the high likelihood of my falling asleep prior to that!

My baby’s 1st Xmas Eve (almost a decade ago).

She always says she finds the sound of me typing on my laptop comforting. I wonder why…🤣

I think some have been defaced and replaced. At least at Fullerton it appears so.

Ha! You just saved me from having to double-check if the Opus card I pulled out of my closet was the right thing for the STM.

Also PSA that weekly passes start on Mondays. So don't buy one of those if you arrive on the weekend and think it's gonna last you until the next one...

My mom would insist that's a waste of $ when they have cars I can borrow! But, of course, if I ask to borrow it it's either "Oh, we have [spare whatever I pretended to need to go buy just to get out of the house] in the basement!" or they want to come with...

Same with my parents’ place in TN (except warmer). There’s nowhere to walk to and no sidewalks even if there were. I could go pace around the backyard to get out I guess…

It makes me feel so childish and trapped. Have managed to avoid it for 6 years now, but I’ll probably have to go back this year.

What I want people to know about intelligence is that it is always made better by humility.

To never think you have all the answers. To know when to listen to others. To not expect people to reconfirm what you already know & instead, tell you something different.

We could have had that in America🧵
