Worth noting here that the population dynamics were much different prior to the Mississippi Plan ca. 1875. Some counties had upwards of 80% black populations,l

It’s impolite to call this guy a Nazi (allegedly). But what if he says it about himself in so many words?

yeah the idea is that they get to engage in Schmittian politics while liberals are constrained by formality

You’re right. Great care must be taken to avoid abuse. I’m just highlighting the distinction btw suppressing a minority defined by immutable characteristics vs. defined by those with a chosen will to erase the immutable minority groups’ power. We must always suppress that will, guilt-free.

I’d say the mechanism on its own is neutral, the intent and purpose is inextricably entwined with any implementation of the mechanism.

Fascists use the same tools as anything else: mechanisms to wield and manipulate power. It’s the how and why that makes them bastards.

It's impolite to call these people "Nazis" but that is Nazi talk and the President and his party stand behind this guy, they love him, they agree.

Important distinction:

A) GOP gerrymander seeks to suppress the will of racial minorities because of the way they were born.

B) Dem gerrymander seeks to suppress the will of those disenfranchising ppl because of the way they were born.

Don’t fall into the equivocation trap. We should always do B.

Agree with the first half (Popper had it right). But don’t like the suggested reciprocity. Rather, let’s entomb the existential threat in a hermetically sealed chamber buried miles beneath the earth’s surface before they get the chance to kill you.

Carl von Clausewitz — 'The aggressor is always peace-loving (as Bonaparte always claimed to be); he would prefer to take over our country unopposed.'

The midterm gerrymandering war and the Iran war alike show Trump's inability to imagine that the people he's picking fights with have any agency, any ability to respond.

He loves his "you don't have the cards" metaphor but he's amazingly terrible at actually thinking about whether they do.

Absolutely - and the same applies in general.

GOP aren’t playing politics in good faith. They’re playing for absolute domination to undermine the spirit and letter of the Constitution. It’s war.

There’s a common thread: Republicans want to suppress the will of the many

1 day ago 1 0 0 0

I think we can polish this axiom down to its core, which is that the few should be able to overrule the many.

No we should definitely tilt the playing field against the fascist party. There's a pretty strong case that we should de facto ban the Republican Party.
