Many wild populations are fragmenting and declining, leading to inbreeding.
We are studying how animals avoid inbreeding and the consequences of inbreeding an in a >20 year study of >20,000 wild mice with whole genomes.
We are recruiting a postdoc at Columbia and two PhD students in U Zurich.

Today I turn 89. I’ve seen this country at its best and its worst, and I know how much community matters. For my birthday, I’m asking you to stand with PFLAG and support the work that’s helped so many in the LGBTQ+ community, including me. give.pflag.org/page/95493/d...
and the same is needed to truly challenge our **humans* too!

Congratulations, Leila, John, and team. Look forward to reading it.
Some day I’ll figure out how to work this into a talk
Oh no, and her sister, Lata Mangeshkar, passed a few years ago. Even in the US, I grew up on her songs in the 80s. She had a massive influence on desis abroad. Here’s Cornershop’s tribute to her. youtu.be/5LBnMRWeV-E
Our PhD student Kennedy Orwa, who studies applications of AI to health care, was hastily deported today to Kenya along with his 13-year-old son without opportunity to speak to legal counsel.
King 5 reports that he held a valid visa that was rescinded without explanation.

Paper of the year!
#SfNHillDay may be wrapping up, but the work doesn't stop here.
This week, SfN Members and #NeuroAdvocates met with members of Congress and their staff to champion protecting NIH-funded research and scientists' ability to conduct their vital work, increased funding in FY 2027.
@statnews.com conducted a national survey of NIH-funded researchers and found that, a year after Trump's return, many scientists are reeling, with some closing labs entirely. ‘This is like the Titanic,' one respondent told me. For full details, see our special report

Interviews with 30 researchers who responded to our @statnews.com survey on the impacts of federal science policy brought the human toll of changes at NIH into sharp focus. In addition to today's special report, @aniloza.bsky.social & I bring you 3 vignettes. 👇

Thank you Jeremy. Here in Maine, we have engaged Sen. Collins and King. Both are highly supportive of NIH/NSF funding.
My day at #standupforscience in DC was truly inspiring

Wonderful talk by @ritastrack.bsky.social on the publishing process at Nature Biomedical Engineering @JAX
Couple of things to emphasize. Editors at NBME are incredibly dedicated and carefully vet every paper. Once it goes for review, they are looking to publish, reviewer praise matters to editors!
Can anyone recommend the best available tactile glove systems currently? We are looking for something like the below at a reasonable price ;-)

This is incredibly powerful testimony.
Ms. Rahman is very tough and clear and was treated horribly.

News from central Jersey: I'm running to represent New Jersey's 12th Congressional District.
By entering the fray, I hope to bring ideas of repairing our frayed republic. Not only to defend it in 2026, but to build something stronger, for generations to come!
